Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre offers a two-year fellowship program in Uro-Oncology designed for surgeons who have recently completed their FCPS or an equivalent overseas qualification. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in advancing their knowledge and skills in oncological urological surgery. The program focuses on developing a strong scientific understanding of urological malignancies and preparing fellows to competently manage common oncological conditions within urology.
Key Responsibilities
The fellow will engage in comprehensive patient care across outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and operating theaters. They will observe and participate in the initial assessment of patients, particularly those presenting with urological tumors, and will learn to order and interpret relevant diagnostic investigations. Under direct supervision, the fellow will be involved in preoperative care and will supervise resident medical staff. Surgical training will include operative techniques such as transurethral resection of bladder tumors and prostate, as well as radical surgeries for testicular, renal, bladder, and prostate cancers, including reconstructive procedures. Active participation in Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Boards is expected, facilitating collaboration with specialties such as Medical and Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Pathology, and Internal Medicine. The fellow will also take part in an on-call rota to assess and manage emergency patients. Additionally, involvement in academic activities including teaching, research, and clinical audits is required.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold an MBBS degree and have completed FCPS in Urology or an equivalent qualification recognized overseas. A valid registration with the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) is mandatory.
