Individual Architectural Consultant- Karachi

Background

 Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP) is implementing an integrated slum upgrading project in 13 informal settlements in Karachi. The project aims to improve living conditions for both host communities and refugees through community-led infrastructure development, improved public spaces, enhanced access to basic services, and strengthened social cohesion.

As part of the planning process, approximately 25 priority infrastructure schemes will be identified for implementation. These infrastructure includes water supply systems, street pavement, rehabilitation of skill development centers, small pedestrian bridges, pocket parks, and local market up gradations, rehabilitation of roads and small shops with access pathways. To support technical planning, stakeholder consultations, and donor presentations, IRP intends to engage an experienced Individual Architectural Consultant to prepare professional architectural 2D drawings, realistic 3D visualizations, and animated walkthrough videos of the proposed schemes.

 Purpose of Consultancy

The purpose of this consultancy is to translate the proposed infrastructure concepts into clear and practical architectural designs that can support internal technical review and externally for community and government department consultations, approvals, and implementation. The consultant will help visualize the proposed interventions so that communities, government departments, UN-Habitat, and other stakeholders have a shared understanding of the proposed developments.

 Scope of Work

Working closely with the Islamic Relief Pakistan technical team, donor, Government departments, Engineering team, and community representatives. The consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks:

Review the Strategic Settlement Plans (SSPs) already available in a mapped form, technical assessment and survey data, engineering BOQs and drawings, along with other relevant project documents. Conduct site visits, where required, to understand existing conditions and project requirements.

Person Specification: It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with the organizational values & principles, vision and mission as well as commitment to its PSEAH (preventing sexual exploitation abuse and harassment) protocols. Responsibilities
Deliverable 1 - Preparation of Architectural Drawings

Prepare detailed architectural drawings for approximately 50 priority schemes, including:

• Site plans

• Layout plans

• Floor plans (where applicable)

• Elevations

• Sections

• Bill of Quantities (BoQs)

• Landscape and public space layouts (where applicable)

• Typical construction details

• Presentation drawings suitable for approvals and stakeholder consultations, while all drawings shall be submitted in both AutoCAD (.DWG) and PDF formats.

Deliverable 2 - 3D Visualization and walk through videos

Develop realistic 3D models of each proposed scheme to clearly demonstrate the final appearance and functionality of the infrastructure.

The consultant will prepare:

• High-quality rendered images

• Perspective views

• Bird's-eye views

• Human-scale visualizations

• Walkthrough Animations

• Prepare short, high-quality animated walkthrough videos for each scheme

These 3D visuals will be illustrating the proposed infrastructure, landscape improvements, public spaces, access routes, and overall project vision. These videos will be used during community consultations, technical meetings, and presentations to UN-Habitat, government departments, and other stakeholders.

Design Revisions

Revise the drawings, 3D models, and videos based on comments received from Islamic Relief Pakistan, UN-Habitat, and community representatives until final approval is obtained.

End Products / Deliverables Summary

The consultant will submit the following:

• Reviewed and Revised BOQs (Where needed)

• Complete 2D architectural drawings (DWG and PDF)

• 3D models for proposed schemes ( 25 or where feasible)

• High-resolution rendered images

• Animated walkthrough videos for scheme (25 or where feasible)

• Final revised design package incorporating stakeholder’s feedback

• All editable source files, including AutoCAD drawings and 3D model files

 Reporting

The consultant will report to the Technical Specialist WASH/WRM, and Project Engineer (Karachi) at Islamic Relief Pakistan, and work closely with the Project Manager and technical team. Technical coordination with donor and other relevant stakeholders will be facilitated by Islamic Relief Pakistan. The consultant will provide:

• Monthly progress updates – Quantitative based on the number of BOQs and Drawings reviewed, produced and submitted

• A final presentation of the completed design package after 100% completion

Qualifications and Experience

The consultant should have:

• A  Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.

• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in Architectural design, Engineering, or Urban planning.

• Proven experience in preparing architectural drawings and 3D visualizations for urban development, public infrastructure, or community development projects.

• Previous experience with UN agencies, INGOs, government organizations, or donor-funded projects will be an added advantage.

• The consultant should be proficient in software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, 3D Max, Lumion or Twinmotion, Adobe Photoshop, and other relevant visualization and rendering tools or any other relevant tools needed to conduct the job
