Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time Accounting Manager to oversee the accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, prepare comprehensive financial reports, and support audit processes within our organization. This pivotal role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external auditors to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and timely financial reporting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maintaining robust financial controls, mentoring accounting staff, and contributing to special projects as needed. Key Responsibilities
The Accounting Manager will conduct detailed analytical reviews of monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, including subsidiary ledgers compared against the general ledger. They will perform monthly variance analyses against budget figures to identify discrepancies and emerging trends, ensuring financial accuracy.
Managing year-end audit preparations is a critical function, involving the coordination and compilation of audit working papers related to assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenditures. The manager will collaborate closely with external auditors to provide all necessary documentation and ensure audit requirements are met efficiently.
Attendance at Board meetings is required to present financial information and updates, supporting informed decision-making by senior leadership. The role also involves reviewing monthly financial statements to guarantee that accurate and reliable reports are distributed to the Board of Directors.
Operational oversight includes managing accounts receivable, cash receipts, and accounts payable functions. The manager will assist Directors and team members with operational reviews and respond to ad hoc reporting requests as needed. Maintaining and updating comprehensive manuals that document accounting procedures, policies, databases, and financial processes is essential to ensure consistency and compliance.
Leadership responsibilities include coaching and mentoring accounting team members by reviewing and approving work assignments, identifying training needs, and conducting regular performance evaluations. The manager will also review and authorize cheque preparations to uphold financial controls.
Additional duties include preparing financial statements, reports, and records by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information. Ensuring financial security through adherence to internal controls and regular data backups is vital. The manager will oversee bank accounts, monitor reserve accounts and investments, and review bank statements for accuracy.
Staying current with accounting regulations, tax laws, reporting requirements, and industry trends is necessary to maintain compliance. The role demands timely completion of assigned tasks and active participation in team efforts, including special projects as directed by the President.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of accounting experience, with at least five years in an accounting management role. A strong understanding of accepted accounting principles, tax laws, reporting requirements, and industry best practices is essential.
Effective communication skills are required to interact professionally with individuals at all organizational levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email applications is expected, along with the ability to quickly adapt to and learn new software systems.
A university degree is preferred but not mandatory.
