A Fiber Technician is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cables that support high-speed internet, voice, and video services. The job may involve indoor work, outdoor aerial installations, underground cabling, or telecom infrastructure in residential, commercial, or industrial areas
Key Responsibilities
- Installation Lay and install fiber optic cables (aerial, buried, duct)
- Splicing Use fusion or mechanical splicing techniques to join fiber cables
- Testing Test fiber continuity using OTDR, power meter, VFL, etc.
- Repair & Maintenance Locate and fix cable faults or damaged fiber
- Documentation Keep records of cable paths, test results, and service logs
