The Psychologist plays a vital role in providing psychosocial support to detainees, trauma survivors, vulnerable refugees, and community members. This position involves delivering psychological first aid, individual and group counseling, referral services, and capacity-building for staff and justice actors on psychosocial well-being. The psychologist works closely with legal professionals, prison staff, and various stakeholders to address complex mental health needs in detention facilities and community settings. The role demands strong ethical standards, empathy, and professionalism in handling sensitive cases involving trauma, gender-based violence, child protection, and other critical issues. This position requires a compassionate, patient, and non-judgmental approach while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. The psychologist operates in a multidisciplinary environment collaborating with government agencies, civil society organizations, and criminal justice actors. They contribute to assessments of detention conditions, documentation and reporting, and support monitoring and evaluation activities related to psychosocial indicators. Although this role does not involve team management, the psychologist is expected to train legal and prison staff and judicial officers on stress, trauma, and survivor-centered approaches. The position requires a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology or a related field, with at least three years of experience in humanitarian psychosocial support contexts. Fluency in English and Pashto or Urdu is advantageous to effectively engage with diverse populations in the region.
Responsibilities
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for detainees and vulnerable individuals in detention centers and communities within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Provide psychological first aid and crisis intervention in detention facilities.
Identify severe or complex cases and refer them to specialized mental health services when necessary.
Deliver training sessions to prison staff, legal professionals, judicial officers, and project teams on trauma, psychosocial needs, and survivor-centered methodologies.
Collaborate closely with lawyers and legal teams on cases involving trauma, gender-based violence, and child protection.
Participate in assessments of detention facility conditions to identify psychosocial risks and recommend improvements.
Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and documentation according to ethical and professional standards.
Prepare and submit monthly activity reports to document interventions and outcomes.
Support monitoring and evaluation officers by providing data and insights related to psychosocial indicators.
Uphold organizational values of inclusion, integrity, professionalism, courage, and empathy in all interactions and interventions.
Apply safeguarding, protection principles, and humanitarian standards in all psychosocial support activities.
Engage with detainees, prison authorities, and community members professionally and respectfully.
Use standard mental health screening tools to assess psychological conditions and track progress.
Manage complex cases involving trauma, torture survivors, and survivors of gender-based violence with sensitivity and confidentiality.
Facilitate capacity building and awareness sessions aimed at non-specialists to enhance understanding of psychosocial well-being.
Utilize MS Office and digital tools for effective record keeping, reporting, and case management.
Work cooperatively within multidisciplinary teams and partner organizations to deliver comprehensive psychosocial support services.
Adhere strictly to organizational policies related to whistleblowing, safeguarding, gender, beneficiary complaints, anti-sexual harassment, anti-fraud, and security.
