The Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal assistance to the institution and various departments in the areas of employment law, contract laws, agreements as well as with in-house directives. The key activities include;

• Drafting and/or revising various documents of legal nature, ensuring in particular that obligations stemming from legislation and regulations currently in force are complied with.

• Assuming responsibility for various legal dossiers and following up on these. • Conducting legal research for pending dossiers or in connection with new regulatory provisions.

• Manage employee relations (IR) cases as per institutional policy including but not limited to managing/conducting enquiries for misconduct, issue letters for show cause, enquiries, terminations and other misconduct matters.

• Liaise with other external legal advisors for representation of institution in different courts.

• Coordinate court cases in behalf of the institution and maintain legal records.

• Assisting with specific projects.

Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKES,P) is a network of educational institutions that combines the operation of 159 schools and 5 hostels with the management of programmes to enhance the quality of teachers, academic resources and learning environments in Pakistan through community partnerships and long-term interventions. It is one of the largest third-sector networks of educational institutions in Pakistan and part of an international network of over 200 schools spread in 8 countries of the world under the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Reaching out to the remotest areas of the country, AKES,P has been providing quality education in the region for the past 110 years. It is a direct provider of education for nearly 36,000 students from pre-primary to higher secondary levels and facilitates access to higher education through the provision of scholarships, hostels and other educational support services.With more than 2,000 employees, of whom over 1,500 areteachers, AKES,P is also supported by over 2,000 volunteers. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, the first AKES,P schools were setup in the 1940s; since then they have contributed significantly toincreasing the literacy rates and social development in theremote, mountainous, harsh and ecologically fragile regions ofNorthern Pakistan. AKES,P currently operates 151 schools inGilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, providing education to over 27,000students, of which 54% are girls. Through these efforts, AKES,Pis continuing to play a critical role in women’s development inthe region. In the Southern Region, AKES,P operates four schools in Karachi,three in Hyderabad and rural Sindh and one in Hafizabad,Punjab, with over 8,900 students. All AKES,P schools follow theNational Curriculum but place special emphasis on the teachingof English, Mathematics, Science and the increasing use ofInformation and Communication Technologies (ICT).
