We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Bookkeeper (Mid-Junior Level) to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have experience working within UK accounting standards and practices and be comfortable with day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone looking to further develop their career in finance with a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
Process and reconcile purchase and sales invoices
Perform bank, credit card, and cash reconciliations
Manage accounts payable and receivable
Assist in preparation of VAT returns in line with HMRC guidelines
Support payroll processing (liaise with external providers if applicable)
Prepare and maintain monthly journals and accruals
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
Liaise with accountants and auditors as required
Ensure all financial data complies with current UK legislation and internal controls.
Requirements:
1–3 years of bookkeeping experience, ideally within a UK-based company or accounting firm
Solid understanding of UK VAT and HMRC compliance
Familiarity with UK accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage)
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
AAT qualified or working towards (or equivalent experience)
Good communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
Experience in a multi-client or multi-entity environment
Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) processes
Knowledge of payroll and pension schemes in the UK
