Voices Organized for Climate Advocacy and Lobbying (VOCAL) is a flagship campaign of Islamic Relief Pakistan. The campaign aims to engage multiple stakeholders (Governments, Academia, Civil Society, Lawyers, Faith Leaders, Communities) and bring them all on a uniform stance on climate change for collaborative action. Given the nature of the campaign and the organization, an ideal candidate will want to gain experience in research and report writing, community engagement, and climate change advocacy. Assignments are expected to be carried out under limited supervision within the office or remotely, therefore only candidates with sound judgment, time management skills, and internal motivation should apply.
Key Accountabilities
- The R&D intern will be required to play a proactive role in the development of innovative research proposals and content to support not only the campaign but the various thematics of the Programme department.
- The intern will be given at least one sizeable research project involving internal and external partners and senior management interaction.
- The R&D intern is expected to contribute to other projects. Some projects will be one-time activities. Other projects will be ongoing with varying degrees of frequency.
- Frequent professional communication and interaction with internal and external partners and stakeholders to complete jobs is required.
- The position may require travel in the field for study and KIIs for research purposes, especially with partner academic institutes.
- Outreach activities in the form of awareness-raising of the campaign and affiliate's goals and the mission it serves, to as wide of an audience as possible.
- By the end of the internship tenure, the intern will have completed a minimum of one assigned project for review and presentation, in addition to gaining valuable professional work experience, knowledge and skills.
Person Specification
It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with the organizational values & principles, vision and mission as well as commitment to its SEAH (Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment) protocols. We have zero tolerance policy towards SEAH and doesn’t support any action that promotes or encourages SEAH.
Required Qualification and Experience
- The best candidate will be chosen from a pool of undergraduate or graduate students preferably in the field of Development Studies, Development Economics, Environmental Studies or related subjects, who can demonstrate that they seek to gain hands-on experience in grassroots community development within an international organization.
- Proficiency in MS Office is a must
- Candidates who display innovative and critical thinking will be preferred
Other Skills Required
- Good written and spoken English language.
- Sympathy with the aims and objectives of Islamic Relief.
- Committed & detail-oriented.
- Good team player.
