Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Counselor to provide comprehensive psychological support and therapy to individuals, families, and communities. The successful candidate will assess patients’ mental health needs, deliver tailored interventions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote rehabilitation and well-being. This role involves direct client interaction, community outreach, case management, and coordination with healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care. The counselor will also contribute to awareness-raising initiatives and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with organizational protocols.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ needs, abilities, and behaviors using interviews, observations, psychometric tests, and other diagnostic tools.
- Diagnose mental and emotional disorders and develop personalized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, behavior modification, and stress reduction techniques.
- Provide therapy addressing anxiety, depression, addictions, social and interpersonal challenges, and other psychological issues.
- Offer crisis intervention for urgent psychological needs and ensure timely support.
- Monitor and document patients’ progress through regular sessions, maintaining detailed records and submitting reports promptly.
- Counsel individuals, groups, and families to help them understand their challenges, set achievable goals, and create realistic action plans.
- Facilitate referrals to specialists, healthcare providers, or other organizations for additional evaluation, treatment, or support services.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including protection officers, education officers, legal professionals, and medical staff to ensure integrated care.
- Lead community-based rehabilitation efforts using psychological approaches and conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about mental health services.
- Identify, establish, and strengthen referral pathways to connect clients with necessary resources and services.
- Conduct home visits and outreach services where feasible to extend support beyond clinical settings.
- Train staff, volunteers, and persons of concern on mental health topics to build community capacity.
- Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality, case documentation protocols, and security measures.
- Liaise with general practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to support client diagnosis, referral, and treatment processes.
- Represent the organization at stakeholder meetings and participate in relevant mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities as assigned.
- Identify and refer protection cases to appropriate authorities in line with safeguarding policies.
- Compile success stories, best practices, and lessons learned to contribute to continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications
- A degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health field.
- Proven experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health disorders across diverse populations.
- Strong knowledge of psychotherapeutic techniques, behavior modification, and crisis intervention.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and community settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to cultural, religious, and gender diversity.
- Competence in case management, documentation, and adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Experience conducting outreach, awareness sessions, and training programs.
- Capacity to manage referrals and maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources.
