Job Summary
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine R&D IT is seeking a highly skilled Product Lead Engineer to join their Hyderabad, India team. This role is pivotal in shaping and executing the technical strategy for the Regulatory Insights and Experience product. The successful candidate will work closely with the Technical Product Manager and multiple stakeholders to ensure the product’s technical architecture aligns with the broader technology roadmap and engineering standards. This position demands a hands-on approach to coding, technical problem-solving, and leadership in building scalable, reusable, and modular solutions that comply with regulatory requirements and meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
The Product Lead Engineer will define and oversee the engineering and technology architecture, roadmap, and technical decisions for the product. This will be done in close coordination with the Product Owner, Product Group Engineer, and Business Unit (BU) Architect, ensuring alignment with the BU Architecture vision and business needs. Collaboration with the Business Product Manager is essential to help shape the product’s strategy and vision.
You will work directly with development squads to address technical challenges, implement solutions, and participate in system, design, and code reviews, including authoring and approving enablers. Leading the evaluation and development of technical solution options is critical, including testing concepts with users to validate effectiveness.
Negotiating technology choices with business partners and collaborating with platform and product teams to leverage existing platforms is a key part of the role. Managing development cadence and aligning technology landscapes across squads will promote reusability, scalability, and modularity.
You will supervise product and platform developments, driving engineering best practices to improve technical quality. Ownership of technology lifecycle management and maintenance of the Product API catalogue, including technical interface definitions, is expected.
Monitoring industry technology trends, conducting research spikes, and facilitating ideation sessions to explore innovation opportunities are vital to staying ahead. Assisting Product Owners and Lead Engineers in prioritizing technical backlogs, as well as coaching and mentoring product and squad members, will be part of your leadership responsibilities.
Collaboration with squads and other Product Lead Engineers to manage risks, resolve dependencies, and escalate impediments is essential. Additionally, you will serve as the primary contact for ISRM, TQ (Q-CSV), vendors, and enterprise platform owners.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, IT, or a related discipline. You should have 2 to 4 years of relevant IT and business experience.
A strong understanding of global regulatory affairs, regulations, computer systems validation, and the regulatory technology landscape is required. This includes compliance requirements for medicinal product workflows, reporting, and information custody.
Experience leading platform selection, build, and integration efforts is essential, particularly in data management, API architecture/design, and Cloud Native technologies. Proven experience owning products or platforms through their lifecycle in multi-team environments is expected.
You should be proficient in at least one programming language such as C/C++, C#, Python, or Java, with experience in code review. A solid grasp of Global Regulatory Affairs systems and their integration with downstream analytics, compliance, and dashboarding systems is necessary.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, with the ability to present complex information across organizational levels. A deep understanding of regulatory business needs, processes, value drivers, and industry trends is important.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to fostering a positive team culture that values diversity and openness. Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies and platforms is also required. Willingness to travel domestically up to 20% is expected.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with AI/ML technologies in a pharmaceutical business environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with Generative AI and Large Language Models will be an advantage.
Experience working with Agile methodologies, process engineering, and prototyping tools is preferred.
