Python Backend Developer (FastAPI + Django)

We are currently looking for a Python Backend Developer with 2-3 years of practical experience in FastAPI, Django, and PostgreSQL. This is a part-time, 3-month contractual role based onsite at our Gulberg 3 office in Lahore. The successful candidate will contribute to building scalable backend systems that support innovative AI integrations.

Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable APIs primarily using FastAPI. Writing clean, well-documented code is essential to support both internal and external system integrations. You will leverage Django’s capabilities to manage authentication, admin dashboards, and content models, utilizing its built-in tools for rapid backend development.

Managing complex PostgreSQL database schemas, optimizing ORM queries, and writing efficient raw SQL for performance-critical features will be a key part of your role. You will integrate OpenAI APIs to enable menu analysis and recommendation features, including crafting dynamic prompts and managing context to enhance AI responses.

Additional responsibilities include implementing output filtering, response scoring, and ensuring secure API interactions. Collaboration with frontend and DevOps teams is crucial to guarantee smooth end-to-end system functionality. You will also maintain versioning, security, and performance of backend services.

Effective communication with project managers, designers, and clients is expected to ensure alignment and timely project updates. Applying security best practices to protect backend services from vulnerabilities and staying current with the latest technology trends are also vital aspects of this position.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must have proven experience in building high-performance APIs using FastAPI for scalable backend services. Proficiency in Django, including its admin interface, middleware, and modular app architecture, is required.

A strong understanding of PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning, is essential. You should be skilled in RESTful API development, integration, and documentation standards.

Expertise in optimizing Django ORM and writing efficient raw SQL queries for complex operations is necessary. Experience with Git for version control and team collaboration is expected.

Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols such as JWT and OAuth2 is important. You should be competent in writing unit and integration tests using Pytest or Django’s test framework.

Experience with Docker for containerization and managing isolated development environments is required. Understanding CI/CD pipelines for continuous deployment and testing is also necessary.

The ability to develop clean, reusable, and scalable code following software design principles is essential, along with awareness of common backend security practices and their implementation.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience integrating OpenAI/GPT models or working with other AI/ML APIs is highly desirable. Knowledge of POS systems, ETL pipelines, or real-time data syncing will be an advantage.

Familiarity with task queues or asynchronous frameworks such as Celery or asyncio is preferred. Exposure to server deployment and API monitoring tools like Uvicorn, Gunicorn, Prometheus, or Sentry is a plus.

Working Conditions
This role is based onsite at our Gulberg 3, Lahore office. The position requires approximately 20 hours per week, ideally between 09:00 AM and 07:00 PM, Monday to Friday plus alternate Saturdays.

The contract duration is 3 months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and project requirements. The expected start date is July 1, 2025.

Compensation is market competitive, ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs70,000 monthly, based on experience and skill level. Candidates must be able to commute to the office and are encouraged to apply before the deadline of June 27, 2025.
