Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (C/C++)

Join the Storage team at SingleStore as a Software Engineer focused on Distributed Systems, where you will play a crucial role in developing robust systems software within a dynamic production environment. You will work closely with product teams and fellow engineers to design and implement critical features that meet high standards of quality and reliability. This position provides a valuable opportunity to advance your technical skills and project management capabilities while collaborating with experienced professionals. The Storage team is responsible for much of the system’s low-level architecture, which is distributed, shared-nothing, and cloud-native—key elements that ensure the product’s scalability and resilience. Your work will cover core distributed system concepts such as cluster management, replication, consensus, and fault tolerance.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop essential software components, systems, and features that drive product innovation and performance.
- Continuously deepen your understanding of the overall system and contribute meaningfully to its architectural design.
- Automate testing processes and maintain high-quality code through rigorous validation and review.
- Manage your own project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with accountability and efficiency.
- Mentor and guide team members on design principles and coding best practices.
- Participate actively in customer proof-of-concepts (POCs) to improve customer experience and facilitate product adoption.
- Collaborate effectively across engineering teams and with other departments including Sales, Marketing, and General & Administrative functions.

Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in C and/or C++ programming languages, especially at the system level.
- Strong understanding of low-level computing concepts such as file systems, concurrency, multithreading, and server architectures.
- Solid grasp of algorithms and data structures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A passion for building highly reliable and scalable system software.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience working with distributed systems and fault-tolerant architectures is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts including replication, consensus algorithms, networking, and Byzantine fault tolerance is a plus.
- This is a full-time, hybrid role requiring one day per week onsite at the office.
