The Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) is a major new agricultural research and development initiative grant supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and other donors. Eight nationally-recruited extension agronomists will plan, implement, and evaluate existing and new technologies for sustainable management of intensive cereal systems. The extension agronomists will be responsible for conducting farmer participatory adaptive trials, fine-tuning technologies to local conditions, and training extension staff and farmers. They will bring together a range of public- and private-sector organizations to deliver integrated technology solutions and to enable eight key hubs in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal.
