Nursing supervisors play a crucial role in ensuring seamless coordination between hospital management and clinical care teams. They oversee patient-care operations, manage nursing staff assignments, and lead quality improvement efforts to maintain high standards of care. Acting as the key managerial and clinical link in the absence of the nurse manager, nursing supervisors also serve as the administrator-on-call, providing essential leadership and decision-making support. Additionally, they must be well-versed in Utilization Review rules and regulations to assist physicians and nursing staff in determining appropriate patient admission status.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily patient-care operations to ensure adherence to nursing standards and protocols.
- Assign duties and monitor the performance of nursing staff to maintain an efficient and effective workflow.
- Serve as the managerial and clinical liaison during the nurse manager’s absence, ensuring continuity of leadership.
- Act as the administrator-on-call, offering guidance and making critical decisions as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians and nursing personnel to determine patient admission status in compliance with Utilization Review regulations.
- Identify areas for quality improvement and implement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or post-RN BSN degree.
- Minimum of eight years of nursing experience, including two to three years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nursing practices and hospital operational procedures.
- Familiarity with Utilization Review rules and regulations related to patient admissions.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- At least two years of experience in emergency nursing is preferred.
- This is a full-time, contract position with a duration of nine months.
