I am competent in executing climate finance policy, strongly emphasising fostering international collaboration and coordination among multilateral agencies, networks, and forums.
My academic foundation in environmental science has given me a strong foundation to effectively implement policies to enhance climate resilience and adaptation within my extensive portfolio of projects.
Previously, working as a climate change research associate at the World Bank's Islamabad office, I actively contributed to various projects under the Bank's disaster risk management team. My contributions extended to pivotal initiatives such as the South Asia Region Climate Action Plan (SARCAP), which aims to strengthen Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)for climate finance and the Bank's Climate Co-benefit targets aimed to achieve the goal of a minimum of 35 of Banks spending going towards climate change. My responsibilities encompassed providing comprehensive support for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the Bank's climate finance policy by collaborating across all teams working on various development issues. This entailed closely monitoring the progress of various projects in their early stage, identifying areas for enhancement, and tailoring project components to ensure the integration of climate adaptation and mitigation measures across the entire spectrum of the Bank's projects.
Furthermore, I demonstrated proficiency in data collection and analysis, employing advanced Excel analysis tools to assess contemporary climate change adaptation and mitigation practices across all World Bank portfolios in Pakistan. This data-driven approach facilitated informed decision-making and contributed significantly to realising the Bank's climate finance objectives. I worked on climate mainstreaming by proposing measures within project documentation. This strategic approach ensured that climate adaptation and mitigation considerations were seamlessly embedded into the fabric of various projects, thus bolstering their sustainability and resilience. Complementing my technical contributions, I also provided vital administrative support, including preparing concise briefs and outreach materials. This comprehensive role underscores my ability to communicate and facilitate the successful execution of climate-related initiatives adeptly.
My experience also extends to fostering climate finance partnership opportunities with corporate companies, foundations, and other prospective organizations while working at a reputed climate development NGO, LEAD as an implementing partner of DFID-funded CDKN and UNDP projects. I assisted my organization in managing and monitoring activities related to the flagship UNDP project called Climate Public Expenditure and Institutional Review (CPEIR), providing technical and administrative support to arrange key stakeholder meetings and events successfully. During my time at LEAD, I have also contributed to preparing and drafting partnership proposals, grant applications, agreements, and progress reports. I conducted qualitative data analysis and produced reports to inform decision-making processes including implications of the Paris Agreement and NDCs from Southeast Asias standpoint. I interacted with stakeholders to develop strong relationships and promote LEAD's mission and values.
As a Policy Officer at the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) based in Bonn Germany, I gained a solid background in developing product sustainability strategies and corporate sustainability strategies by managing and updating Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) elements within FSCs sustainability standards. This position also allowed me to lead a pilot project to test new FSC standards on enabling procurement claims. To operationalize the project, I collaborated with several high-level external stakeholders from member organizations and certification bodies based in the EU, USA, and Asia. The process involved legal onboarding and active collaboration to enable them to implement sustainability standards under the pilot test effectively. In addition to that, my work involved managing technical questions from certified organizations and auditors. One of my key works at FSC revolved around revising the FSCs standards, ensuring that the updates were diligently aligned with the complex ESG regulators in the EU such as EU Green Deal, CSRD, ESRS, etc.
