Accountant

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as an Accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for reviewing AI-generated accounting and finance content. Your role involves evaluating the quality of reasoning and step-by-step problem-solving, while providing precise written feedback. You will assess solutions for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and adherence to prompts, identifying errors in bookkeeping logic, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial statement presentation, and controls. Additionally, you will fact-check technical accounting claims, write high-quality explanations and model solutions that demonstrate correct methods, and rate multiple responses based on correctness and reasoning quality. This opportunity is with SME Careers, a rapidly growing AI Data Services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, which provides training data for leading AI companies and foundation-model labs.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop AI Training Content by creating detailed prompts and gold-standard accounting outputs such as journal entries, explanations, close checklists, reconciliation logic, and scenario analyses.
- Optimize AI Performance by evaluating and ranking AI responses to enhance correctness, clarity, and compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and best accounting practices.
- Ensure Model Integrity by testing AI outputs for inaccuracies, misleading guidance, unsafe assumptions, and bias, while validating reliability across various business scenarios.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or local equivalents are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience in public accounting, industry, shared services, or advisory roles.
- Strong expertise in core accounting areas including revenue and expense recognition, accruals, prepaid and deferred items, fixed assets, inventory fundamentals, payroll basics, and tax awareness.
- Proven ability to prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close deliverables with a focus on auditability.
- Solid understanding of financial statements including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow, along with common classification and presentation issues.
- Familiarity with internal controls concepts such as segregation of duties, approvals, documentation standards, and audit readiness.
- Ability to evaluate answers for internal consistency, including sign conventions, debits and credits, timing, cut-off, supporting schedules, and business realism.
- Proficiency in English at a minimum C1 level, with strong writing skills to produce clear, structured explanations and follow detailed guidelines.
- Reliable, self-directed, and capable of delivering consistent quality work in a remote, hourly contractor capacity across multiple time zones.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
