AI Engineer

BangoPure Limited is seeking a skilled and innovative AI Engineer to join our expanding international team in a fully remote, full-time capacity. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of an AI service focused on making sustainability claims verifiable and measurable. This includes work on material recognition, recycled-content verification, carbon-footprint estimation, and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This role involves end-to-end production AI responsibilities, extending beyond model training to deployment, monitoring, and maintenance in a real-world environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the AI lifecycle: data collection, model training, evaluation, selection, API development, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
- Build and deploy a computer-vision material recognition model covering approximately 200 material classes with over 50,000 images.
- Benchmark architectures such as ResNet-50, EfficientNet, ConvNeXt, ViT, and CLIP-style models.
- Develop AI-based verification systems for material, waste, and recycled-content claims.
- Create carbon-footprint estimation models, including XGBoost baselines.
- Implement EPD and environmental calculation services compliant with ISO 14025, ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and EN 15804+A2 standards.
- Conduct Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis targeting processing times under five seconds per product.
- Build confidence and decision engines to automate approval, human review, or rejection workflows.
- Deliver Explainable AI features such as confidence scores, model/version metadata, and Grad-CAM heatmaps.
- Develop production-grade REST APIs using FastAPI or equivalent frameworks.
- Integrate AI services with a Java Spring Boot platform via Kafka messaging.
- Design scalable batch processing capable of handling up to 500 products per request and 12,000 products within 72 hours.
- Dockerize, deploy, monitor, and maintain AI services on GPU/CPU infrastructure.
- Implement model and dataset versioning, monitoring, retraining, and hot-swapping.
- Perform comprehensive model evaluation, error analysis, and per-class performance testing.
- Maintain clear and thorough documentation covering datasets, training processes, APIs, deployment, and maintenance.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on industry experience in AI or Machine Learning.
- Strong proficiency in Python programming.
- Production experience with computer vision models.
- Solid deep learning expertise using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Experience with CNN and Transformer architectures.
- Skills in dataset creation, annotation, and augmentation.
- Development experience with FastAPI or equivalent REST API frameworks.
- Proficiency with Docker and Linux environments.
- Proven track record of deploying machine learning models in production.
- Ability to work independently within a fully remote, international team.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Familiarity with ResNet-50, EfficientNet, ConvNeXt, ViT architectures.
- Experience with Explainable AI techniques such as Grad-CAM.
- Knowledge of XGBoost and MLflow or similar tools.
- Experience with Kafka messaging systems.
- Expertise in GPU deployment, ONNX, TensorRT, and model optimization.
- Familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes environments.
- Understanding of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Ecoinvent database, and environmental-impact calculations.
- Knowledge of ISO 14025, 14040, and 14044 standards.
- Experience integrating AI services with Java Spring Boot platforms.
- Background in sustainability, traceability, or Digital Product Passport (DPP) initiatives.
