Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital is seeking a skilled Operation Room Assistant with at least one year of practical experience in a hospital operating theater. The ideal candidate holds a diploma in Operating Room Assistance or OT Technology and demonstrates a solid understanding of sterilization techniques, operating room protocols, and patient monitoring. This role supports surgical teams by ensuring that the operation room is safely prepared, equipment is sterilized, and all clinical documentation is handled accurately. The assistant must be able to respond effectively in emergency situations and carry out basic life support when required.
This position demands a disciplined and reliable individual who thrives in a high-pressure environment and respects the strict professional standards within the operating theater. The Operation Room Assistant does not manage a team but plays a critical supportive role in maintaining operational efficiency. Strong communication skills are vital to follow verbal instructions precisely during procedures and contribute to patient safety and surgical success.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments and equipment for surgical procedures adhering strictly to sterilization techniques and operating room protocols.
- Monitor patient condition and vital signs during operations and respond promptly to changes or emergencies to support the medical team.
- Manage inventory of surgical supplies and ensure that all required items are replenished in a timely manner to avoid delays during surgeries.
- Assist surgical teams by providing instruments and supplies as needed, ensuring smooth workflow and minimal disruption during operations.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation related to surgical procedures, patient status, and equipment usage.
- Follow infection control protocols rigorously to prevent contamination and maintain a sterile environment within the operation room.
- Respond efficiently to emergency situations by applying Basic Life Support (BLS) and other necessary emergency response measures.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care in the operating room.
- Adhere to all hospital safety guidelines and policies to maintain a secure operation environment.
- Participate in routine checks and maintenance of operation room medical equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
