Responsibilities
The Receptionist cum Phlebotomist warmly welcomes patients at the front desk, verifies physician test requisition slips, and ensures precise entry of patient demographic and test data into the Hospital Information System (HIS). The candidate performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection aseptically for both outpatient and inpatient departments by adhering strictly to safety, infection control, and laboratory hygiene protocols. They are responsible for accurate specimen handling, labeling blood tubes and containers with essential patient and test information, and timely delivery of specimens to the respective laboratory sections. Additionally, the role requires guiding patients on test preparations and addressing routine billing or registration inquiries with empathy and professionalism. The Receptionist cum Phlebotomist maintains cleanliness and inventory at the blood collection and reception areas, ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked to avoid delays or wastage. The position demands consistent compliance with infection control and patient privacy standards while supporting the hospitals commitment to providing quality patient care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Greet and register patients efficiently, verifying physician orders and patient details accurately.
- Perform aseptic blood collection using venipuncture and capillary methods following infection control protocols.
- Label specimens with correct patient identifiers and handle them carefully to maintain sample integrity.
- Input patient and test data accurately into the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Manage patient inquiries related to tests, registration, and billing with professionalism and clarity.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the blood drawing bench, reception area, and related equipment.
- Ensure inventory levels for phlebotomy and reception supplies are adequate and reorder supplies as needed.
- Adhere to laboratory hygiene, aseptic technique, and patient confidentiality guidelines at all times.
- Contribute to a supportive work environment by collaborating efficiently with medical staff and laboratory personnel.
