The role involves supporting the administration, monitoring, and optimization of the university’s Huawei SDN-based core network infrastructure. The primary focus is to ensure high availability, robust security, and strict compliance with institutional ICT policies. The position requires close collaboration with the Network Engineer and Core Network Manager to maintain smooth daily operations and contribute to the overall efficiency and reliability of the network environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in daily core network operations alongside the Network Engineer and Core Network Manager.
- Monitor network performance continuously, identify any irregularities, and escalate issues promptly to prevent downtime.
- Configure and maintain distribution layer switches, ensuring firewall security policies are correctly applied.
- Implement network segmentation, enforce access controls, and apply security mechanisms to safeguard the network.
- Keep network topology, configuration details, and change management documentation up to date.
- Collaborate with ICT Operations teams to troubleshoot issues and restore services efficiently.
- Participate in both internal and external network audits, ensuring adherence to ICT standards and policies.
- Contribute to capacity planning, system optimization, and support future network upgrade initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecom Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- Specialized training in Huawei technologies or equivalent certifications.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in network administration and firewall operations, with hands-on experience using a Network Management System (NMS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecom Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with Huawei SDN and eSight NMS is highly desirable.

Applicants with a third division in their academic record or a weak academic profile may be deemed ineligible. Current employees of the university with less than one year of service or those without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Head of Institution will not be considered. Candidates who are still pursuing the required degree or are medically unfit will also be disqualified.
