The API Inspector role is critical for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and compliance of fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks. This position involves conducting inspections in accordance with API, ASME, and other international standards to support inspection, repair, and risk-based integrity programs. The inspector plays a vital role in safeguarding asset performance, minimizing unplanned downtime, and enhancing safety by applying thorough inspection techniques, RBI methodologies, and providing expert recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of pressure vessels, piping systems, and aboveground storage tanks following API 510, 570, and 653 standards.
- Monitor and oversee repairs, alterations, and rerating activities to ensure adherence to relevant codes and client specifications.
- Perform or supervise thickness measurements, corrosion assessments, fitness-for-service evaluations, and remaining life calculations.
- Identify non-conformities, prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Ensure all inspection activities comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize asset reliability and performance.
- Complete inspection schedules and reports promptly, meeting project and client requirements.
- Develop and implement effective inspection strategies to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth inspection processes.
- Follow up on identified non-conformities and ensure timely closure.
- Maintain compliance with API, ASME, ISO, ASTM, and other applicable standards in all inspection deliverables.
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive inspection reports, NCRs, and recommendations for repair or acceptance.
- Apply expertise in non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques and interpret inspection results accurately.
- Uphold Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements related to inspection activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline is preferred; alternatively, a diploma in a relevant field is acceptable.
- Valid certification in at least one of the following API standards: API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector), API 570 (Piping Inspector), or API 653 (Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector).
- A minimum of 5 to 12 years of inspection experience within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or power industries.
- Strong knowledge of ASME codes including Section VIII, IX, and B31.3, as well as other relevant standards.
- Familiarity with corrosion mechanisms and degradation modes affecting fixed equipment.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and international codes.
- Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills with proficiency in English.
- Computer literacy, including experience with inspection management systems and RBI software.
- In-depth understanding of API, ASME, AWS, ISO, and other international inspection standards.
- Competence in preparing detailed inspection reports, NCRs, and technical recommendations.
- Strong understanding of HSE requirements related to inspection and asset integrity.
