API Plant Inspector

Key Responsibilities

- Perform inspections of pressure vessels, process piping, and aboveground storage tanks in compliance with API standards, approved procedures, and client requirements.
- Conduct in-service, periodic, shutdown, and turnaround inspections as assigned.
- Review technical documentation including drawings, equipment data, inspection history, and specifications prior to inspections.
- Identify and document corrosion, erosion, cracking, leakage, deformation, deterioration, and other damage mechanisms.
- Execute or witness visual inspections, thickness measurements, and other assigned inspection activities.
- Review NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) results and verify findings against acceptance criteria.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, records, and recommendations for repair, replacement, further inspection, or engineering assessment.
- Apply API 510, API 570, and API 653 codes within the inspection scope, evaluating findings against applicable standards and procedures.
- Assess corrosion and thickness trends to support remaining service life evaluations.
- Coordinate with qualified NDT personnel and review related documentation.
- Maintain technical integrity, traceability, and confidentiality of inspection records.
- Escalate critical findings requiring engineering or fitness-for-service assessments.
- Complete inspection assignments within agreed scope, schedule, quality, and commercial requirements.
- Communicate additional inspection needs, technical observations, and potential scope changes through appropriate channels.
- Support client retention and business development by delivering professional, impartial services.
- Plan daily inspection activities and manage priorities effectively.
- Maintain valid API certifications, competence records, and required training.
- Stay current with applicable codes, standards, procedures, and technical developments.
- Uphold professional independence, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Escalate technical uncertainties, safety concerns, non-conformities, and critical findings promptly.
- Understand and confirm client inspection scope and requirements before execution.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly, objectively, and professionally.
- Coordinate inspection activities with client representatives to minimize operational disruption.
- Respond professionally to client technical queries within the approved scope.
- Comply fully with all legal requirements, Bureau Veritas HSE policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintain tidy, hazard-free work areas and report any deviations or hazards immediately.
- Participate in hazard identification, risk control, incident reporting, and investigations.
- Take personal responsibility for health and safety and cooperate with others to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- API certifications: API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, API 570 Piping Inspector, and API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector.
- Relevant training in NDT, welding inspection, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) practices.
- Strong technical knowledge of API 510, API 570, and API 653 standards, pressure vessels, process piping, aboveground storage tanks, corrosion and damage mechanisms, inspection planning, visual inspection, thickness measurement, NDT methods, welding and fabrication practices, and applicable ASME/API codes and client requirements.
- Proven experience in inspection of pressure vessels, process piping, and/or aboveground storage tanks within oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, or industrial plants.
- Experience with in-service and shutdown/turnaround inspections, NDT coordination and review, thickness monitoring, and preparation of technical inspection reports.

Performance Monitoring and Development

- Maintain and enhance API inspection competency through ongoing training, certification renewal, code and standard updates, technical learning, field experience, and participation in internal and external development activities.
- Key performance indicators include timely completion of inspection assignments, accuracy and completeness of reports, compliance with standards and HSE requirements, client feedback, validity of certifications, and prompt escalation of critical findings.
- Performance is monitored by the Lead Oil & Gas / Operations Manager or Department Head.
