API Plant Inspector

Key Responsibilities

- Perform inspections of pressure vessels, process piping, and aboveground storage tanks in compliance with API standards, approved procedures, and client requirements.
- Conduct in-service, periodic, shutdown, and turnaround inspections as assigned.
- Review technical documentation including drawings, equipment data, inspection histories, and specifications prior to inspections.
- Identify and document damage mechanisms such as corrosion, erosion, cracking, leakage, deformation, and deterioration.
- Execute or witness visual inspections, thickness measurements, and other assigned inspection activities.
- Review and interpret NDT results, verifying findings against acceptance criteria.
- Prepare detailed and accurate inspection reports, records, and recommendations for repair, replacement, or further evaluation.
- Apply API 510, API 570, and API 653 codes within the scope of inspections and assess inspection findings against applicable standards and client specifications.
- Evaluate corrosion and thickness trends to support remaining service life assessments within the inspector’s authority.
- Coordinate with qualified NDT personnel and maintain the integrity and confidentiality of inspection records.
- Escalate findings requiring engineering or fitness-for-service assessments.
- Complete inspection assignments within agreed scope, schedule, quality, and commercial requirements.
- Communicate additional inspection needs, technical observations, and potential scope changes through proper channels.
- Support client retention and business development by delivering professional, impartial services.
- Plan daily inspection activities, manage priorities, and maintain valid certifications and training.
- Stay current with codes, standards, procedures, and technical developments.
- Maintain professional independence, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Promptly report technical uncertainties, safety concerns, non-conformities, and critical findings.
- Understand and confirm client inspection scope and requirements before execution.
- Provide clear, objective, and professional communication of inspection findings and timely technical reports.
- Coordinate inspection activities with client representatives to minimize operational disruption.
- Respond professionally to client technical queries within the approved scope.
- Comply with all applicable legal requirements and Bureau Veritas HSE policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and hazard-free work environment, report hazards immediately, and participate in risk control measures.
- Report all incidents and unsafe acts or conditions, cooperating fully in investigations.
- Take responsibility for personal health and safety and that of others affected by your work.
- Cooperate with others on health and safety matters and use provided safety equipment properly.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- API certifications including API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, API 570 Piping Inspector, and API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector.
- Relevant training in NDT, welding inspection, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices.
- Strong technical knowledge of API 510, API 570, and API 653 codes; pressure vessels, process piping, and storage tanks; corrosion and damage mechanisms; inspection planning; visual inspection; thickness measurement; NDT methods; welding and fabrication practices; and applicable ASME/API codes and client requirements.
- Proven experience inspecting pressure vessels, process piping, and/or aboveground storage tanks in oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, or industrial plants.
- Experience with in-service and shutdown/turnaround inspections, NDT coordination and review, thickness monitoring, and technical report preparation.
