Application Development Manager

Based in Lahore, the Manager of Applications Development will lead the Application Development Team with a hands-on approach, balancing both development and managerial duties. This role involves overseeing the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for custom applications, working closely with the Director of Application Development to shape application architecture and design. The manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing support of these applications, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
Ensure that all projects are aligned with business goals and system efficiency requirements. Develop and implement strategies to improve current systems and propose enhancement initiatives. Manage the development and deployment of new applications as well as significant upgrades to existing ones. Take ownership of issue escalation and resolution related to technology delivery, ensuring timely follow-through. Build and maintain strong business partnerships with clients, vendors, IT executives, and senior business leaders. Foster relationships based on trust, balancing client needs with business priorities to align with overall organizational strategies. Stay informed about technological advancements and evaluate their potential as viable business solutions.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business-related field. At least five years of relevant experience in application development or a similar role. Demonstrated expertise in applied object-oriented design patterns. Proficiency in core J2EE patterns such as DAO, EJB, and Controllers. Practical experience with Struts versions 1 and 2. Strong SQL skills with familiarity in databases like MySQL or Oracle. Hands-on experience with WebSphere, Rational Application Developer, and Eclipse development environments. Knowledge of rich client-side JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery and jQuery UI. Comprehensive understanding of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies, and how they apply to business needs. Solid knowledge of business operations, objectives, and strategic planning. Skilled in project planning methodologies, IT standards, and guidelines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal abilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams and business units. Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities. Knowledge of retail processes and operations is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with the Spring Framework is considered an advantage. Familiarity with Tomcat and JBoss application servers is also beneficial.
