Layers is a dynamic startup building the infrastructure for the global circular fashion supply chain, connecting secondhand clothing graders and raghouses in Pakistan with buyers worldwide. Having rapidly scaled to tens of thousands of units per month across international supply chains, the company is experiencing significant growth in transaction volumes, supplier relationships, and customer accounts. The Finance Manager role is critical in establishing robust financial planning, controls, reporting, and cash-flow management to support this expansion without disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning and Forecasting: Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term financial forecasts covering revenue, gross profit, operating expenses, and cash flow. Manage a rolling weekly cash-flow forecast to provide clear visibility of balances, receipts, and upcoming payments. Model various scenarios related to growth, hiring, pricing, margins, and working capital, proactively identifying potential funding gaps. Analyze actual performance against forecasts and explain significant variances.
- Receivables, Payables, and Controls: Maintain accurate records of customers and suppliers, including ageing reports and payment schedules. Collaborate with Sales to collect overdue payments and coordinate with Supply and Operations to verify order fulfillment before supplier payments. Design and implement financial policies, approval thresholds, and audit trails to ensure separation of duties in requesting, approving, and paying. Safeguard the company against fraud, financial leakage, and errors as transaction volumes increase.
- Reporting and Commercial Analysis: Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and consistent weekly reports covering revenue, cost of goods sold, margins, operating expenses, cash, and working capital. Develop dashboards and profitability reports segmented by customer, supplier, order, category, and channel. Identify margin leakage, validate gross profit before commission approvals, and support pricing decisions. Provide insightful explanations of financial performance to management beyond mere number presentation.
- Systems Development and Cross-Functional Partnership: Evaluate and implement accounting, payment, reporting, and expense management systems to reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets. Oversee reconciliations, month-end close processes, and ensure data accuracy across banks, platforms, customers, and suppliers. Manage banking relationships, domestic and international payments, foreign exchange costs, and payment providers. Serve as the primary internal liaison for external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors, coordinating payroll and commission oversight.
Required Qualifications
- 4 to 7 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, commercial finance, or financial operations, preferably with experience building processes in a growing business environment.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow management, budgeting, management reporting, and accounts receivable/payable reconciliations.
- Advanced skills in spreadsheet use and financial modeling, with the ability to analyze transactions and determine true profitability.
- Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, integrity, and confidentiality, along with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Confident communication skills, comfortable working directly with founders, department heads, and external advisors, with professional proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience in international trade, supply chain, wholesale, textiles, logistics, e-commerce, or transaction-heavy startups is highly desirable. Professional certifications such as CA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalents are preferred but not mandatory if accompanied by strong relevant experience.
