Assistant Financial Controller

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Controller to join our team at Plaza ONE, Islamabad. This full-time, onsite position requires managing complex accounting operations and end-to-end bookkeeping in accordance with US accounting standards. The successful candidate will work independently, handling month-end close activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and applying sound accounting judgment. This role goes beyond routine bookkeeping, requiring proactive identification of discrepancies, investigation of financial issues, and delivery of reliable financial insights while ensuring accuracy and consistency in all accounting processes. The working hours are from 2 PM to 11 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage comprehensive bookkeeping and accounting operations, ensuring all financial records are accurate and current.
- Independently perform complex account reconciliations, accruals, adjusting journal entries, and month-end closing activities.
- Prepare and review general ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, balance sheet schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Investigate discrepancies, identify unusual transactions, resolve accounting issues, and ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data.
- Analyze financial statements to identify trends, variances, and potential risks, providing meaningful financial insights.
- Apply sound accounting judgment in handling complex transactions, adjustments, and financial reporting matters.
- Maintain proper documentation, internal controls, and ensure compliance with applicable US accounting standards and practices.
- Manage deadlines, prioritize deliverables, and ensure timely completion of all financial reporting activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and support the implementation of efficient accounting workflows.
- Assist in audit preparation, financial reporting, and other accounting-related tasks as required.
- Review accounting work and provide technical guidance to junior team members when applicable.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional accounting certifications such as ACCA, CA, CPA, or equivalent are preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting and bookkeeping experience.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close procedures.
- Proven ability to handle complex reconciliations, accruals, adjusting entries, and end-to-end bookkeeping independently.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and exercise sound accounting judgment.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar platforms.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining accounting matters clearly and professionally.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of deliverables, and operate with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, or US accounting operations.
- Familiarity with financial reporting, budgeting, variance analysis, and internal controls.
- Experience reviewing junior accountants’ work and providing technical guidance.
- Knowledge of US tax-related bookkeeping requirements and audit support.
