Aga Khan University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery in Karachi, Pakistan, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Professor. Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver theoretical and clinical instruction independently within the BScN program, including lecturing, student assessments, and evaluations using diverse teaching methods.
- Develop course proposals and obtain necessary approvals, designing detailed course grids that outline curriculum structure, assessment strategies, and scheduling.
- Mentor junior faculty members such as instructors and interns in areas of course development, teaching, and research.
- Employ innovative and culturally relevant teaching practices to foster student engagement, critical thinking, and self-directed learning.
- Identify student learning gaps and recommend or implement strategies to enhance academic performance.
- Supervise students during clinical placements and maintain collaborative relationships with affiliated healthcare institutions.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and academic advising to students while ensuring confidentiality of records.
- Participate actively in curriculum reviews and offer consultancy on curriculum-related matters to other nursing schools.
- Encourage student self-evaluation and promote independent learning approaches.
- Conduct independent or collaborative research, including proposal development, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Present research findings at local, national, or international forums and publish in peer-reviewed journals or academic books.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards in research and assist in coordinating research activities.
- Serve on a minimum of three committees within the school, hospital, university, or professional organizations, chairing at least one.
- Contribute to strategic and long-term planning at both school and university levels.
- Lead or play a significant role in planning, implementing, and evaluating academic and development projects.
- Participate in faculty recruitment and professional development initiatives.
- Represent the School in national and international forums and projects, ensuring alignment with institutional policies.
- Provide consultancy services in areas of expertise in accordance with the University’s external engagement policy.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, DNSc, or equivalent doctoral degree, along with a Master’s degree such as MScN, MPhil, MEd, or MSc in MPH, Epidemiology, or Health Policy and Management, plus a basic nursing qualification (BScN, Post-RN, or Diploma in Nursing).
- At least four years of combined clinical and/or teaching experience.
- Valid Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) license.
- Minimum of four published research papers in peer-reviewed, indexed journals, including at least three as first author; one publication must be within the last two years.
- Additional scholarly contributions such as book chapters, monographs, or consolidated reports are advantageous.
- Proven clinical competence as a professional nurse and ability to serve as an effective role model.
- Strong conceptual knowledge of nursing and relevant specialization with the capability to integrate theory into practice.
- Proficiency in contemporary teaching methodologies and effective instructional skills.
- Familiarity with current research methodologies and ability to initiate research projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including academic writing and presentation abilities.
- Fluency in English and Urdu; knowledge of additional regional languages is a plus.
- Competence in computer use and relevant software applications.
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills.
- Sound understanding of educational leadership and management principles.
