The Data Solutions team plays a crucial role by delivering high-quality data to support global investment and business operations. The Associate in Product Engineering will join a newly formed Product Engineering group focused on building a next-generation technology platform for Oaktree’s credit business, one of the firm’s largest investment strategies. This senior individual contributor role involves hands-on software engineering, working directly in the codebase to solve complex problems and develop production-grade systems. The position offers high ownership and autonomy, requiring collaboration with global stakeholders, primarily in Los Angeles, while independently driving problem identification, solution design, execution, and communication. The role covers full-stack, data-intensive development, including data pipelines, backend services, and user-facing applications. Engineers engage directly with business stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions and manage delivery end-to-end without traditional product managers. The platform is built on a modern Azure cloud architecture and incorporates generative AI tools to enhance engineering efficiency and product capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Own and deliver end-to-end platform components, including data pipelines, backend services, and user-facing applications.
- Design and build scalable, reliable data systems covering ingestion, transformation, analytics, and APIs.
- Lead modernization efforts for architecture and technology stack, applying strong technical judgment to design decisions.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and investment teams to understand workflows and develop impactful solutions.
- Act as a product owner within your domain by defining scope, prioritizing work, and iterating quickly based on business impact.
- Operate independently across time zones, proactively communicating progress, decisions, and risks.
- Apply generative AI thoughtfully to improve development efficiency and enable intelligent product features.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical leadership.
- Implement modern engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and feature management.
- Use data-driven decision-making supported by metrics, telemetry, and experimentation.
- Communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both engineering and business audiences.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience owning business-critical, distributed production systems.
- Proven track record as a Senior, Staff, or Principal Engineer delivering complex enterprise, cloud-native, and financial technology platforms.
- Expertise in C#, .NET Core/.NET 8+, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, REST APIs, gRPC, and modern backend development.
- Strong full-stack development skills with React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern UI frameworks.
- Solid foundation in computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, distributed systems, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Experience building data-intensive applications involving data modeling, event-driven architectures, ETL/data pipelines, and real-time processing.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one compiled language such as C#, Java, Go, C++, or Scala.
- Hands-on experience with microservices, API-first architectures, domain-driven design (DDD), and messaging platforms like Azure Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
- Strong knowledge of Azure cloud services, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/AKS), CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep), and cloud-native architectures.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and MongoDB, emphasizing performance and scalability.
- Commitment to engineering excellence through automated testing, TDD, observability, security, DevSecOps, and code quality best practices.
- Ability to work independently, drive technical strategy, and deliver end-to-end solutions while collaborating directly with business stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills with a history of influencing technical decisions through expertise.
- Demonstrated product mindset connecting technical solutions to customer value, business outcomes, and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Advanced degree such as MS or MBA, or equivalent experience in product-focused engineering leadership, is preferred.
- Hybrid work model with three days per week in the office and two days remote.
- Shift options include 1 PM to 10 PM or 2 PM to 11 PM.
