Backend Software Engineer (Node.js / Full-Stack)

Vision71 Technologies, based in Karachi, is seeking a reliable Backend Software Engineer with strong Node.js expertise and some full-stack experience. The role focuses primarily on backend development, including building, debugging, testing, documenting, and delivering software solutions for both client and internal projects. You will collaborate closely with the technical lead and a small team, occasionally contributing to React/Next.js frontend components as needed. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring clear communication and ownership throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Node.js applications, REST APIs, and integrations using JavaScript/TypeScript with frameworks such as Express or NestJS.
- Design efficient data models and queries using SQL and/or MongoDB tailored to project requirements.
- Implement secure authentication, authorization, validation, error handling, and manage sensitive credentials and business data responsibly.
- Identify, reproduce, and fix bugs by investigating logs and root causes; write appropriate automated tests to ensure quality.
- Improve existing codebases, utilize Git branching and pull requests, and actively participate in code reviews.
- Support React/Next.js frontend development by connecting interfaces to backend services when required.
- Manage staging environments, coordinate approved deployments, troubleshoot production issues, and plan rollbacks with clear handovers.
- Break down requirements into manageable tasks, provide realistic estimates, and proactively communicate blockers or delivery risks.
- Maintain comprehensive API documentation, setup guides, task progress updates, and handover notes.
- Evaluate and prototype new tools when justified by project needs.

Required Qualifications
- Approximately 2–4 years of hands-on software development experience preferred, though strong candidates outside this range are welcome.
- Proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript, including asynchronous programming, API design, and debugging.
- Experience delivering or maintaining applications actively used by end users, with the ability to clearly articulate your personal contributions.
- Working knowledge of database design, query optimization, indexing, and migrations relevant to your technology stack.
- Familiarity with React or Next.js, Git version control, API testing, and automated testing frameworks.
- Sound judgment regarding maintainability, security, and technical trade-offs.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Karachi with clear and effective communication skills.
- Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience demonstrating your capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with Docker, Linux environments, CI/CD pipelines, cloud hosting platforms, background job processing, message queues, third-party API integrations, reporting dashboards, and business software integrations is advantageous.
