As a Blasting Engineer at Biafo Industries Limited, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing blasting operations using the company’s explosive products. Your role will ensure safe, compliant, and efficient blasting outcomes across various field assignments. You will act as a technical expert in blast design, collaborating closely with sales, production, project teams, and site clients to deliver optimal results.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and calculate blast patterns, charge sizes, and timing sequences tailored to different rock types, geological structures, and project goals.
- Select appropriate Biafo explosives, such as Tovex® water gel and ANFO, along with blasting accessories including detonators, relays, and safety fuses for each application.
- Lead field blast planning and execution, which includes conducting site surveys, drill hole layout, and supervising the loading process.
- Monitor blasting outcomes by assessing fragmentation quality, vibration levels, air overpressure, and flyrock to ensure safety and minimize environmental impact.
- Ensure strict compliance with Pakistani regulatory and safety standards related to the handling, transportation, storage, and use of explosives.
- Provide technical support and training to clients and internal staff on blast safety, product knowledge, and best practices.
- Analyze blast performance data to recommend improvements in design or methodology.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, risk assessments, permits, and other necessary documentation for projects and internal records.
- Collaborate with sales and technical services teams to support customer requirements and develop effective blasting solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining Engineering.
- Valid blasting certification or license, or eligibility to obtain one, as per Pakistani safety and explosives regulations.
- Strong understanding of explosives theory, blast mechanics, initiation systems, and rock fragmentation processes.
- Practical experience in blast design and techniques for controlling vibration and overpressure.
- Proficiency with professional blast design and monitoring software is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience and Attributes
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in blasting operations, preferably within mining, construction, or seismic sectors.
- Familiarity with Biafo’s product lines, including Tovex® and related accessory systems, as well as commercial blasting standards.
- Experience with vibration monitoring instrumentation and conducting post-blast analysis.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
- Analytical mindset capable of interpreting geological and engineering data effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently both in office environments (design and reporting) and in dynamic field settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills to lead crew members and coordinate with clients.
- Willingness to travel extensively to project sites across Pakistan.
