You’ll run day-to-day plant operations, lead the production team across shifts, and deliver on safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. You’ll coordinate closely with EHS, Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and Supply Chain to keep the plant safe, stable, and efficient.

Key responsibilities

  • Own daily production execution to hit plan, yield, and OEE targets while staying within budget.
  • Lead and develop production operators and shift leads. Build schedules, manage attendance, run shift handovers, and coach for performance.
  • Drive a strong safety culture. Enforce LOTO, permits to work, PPE, and safe work practices. Participate in incident investigations, MOC, HAZOPs, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and local regulations, including PSM or equivalents, HazCom/GHS, waste handling, and environmental permits.
  • Maintain product quality. Oversee batch record reviews, in-process controls, and finished-goods release in partnership with QA/QC. Lead CAPA and root-cause analysis using basic SPC tools.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on PM schedules and quick recovery from breakdowns. Use CMMS data to cut unplanned downtime.
  • Plan and sequence production with Supply Chain to meet OTIF goals. Balance changeovers, campaigns, and cleaning to reduce losses.
  • Improve processes using Lean/Six Sigma methods. Standardize work, update SOPs, and remove bottlenecks.
  • Track and report KPIs: safety, yield, first-pass quality, OEE, scrap, energy use, and labor productivity.
  • Manage materials on the floor. Ensure correct labeling, storage, and inventory accuracy for hazardous chemicals.
  • Prepare for and host internal, customer, and regulatory audits.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, or similar. Equivalent experience considered.
  • 3–5+ years in a chemical manufacturing environment with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Hands-on experience with batch or continuous processes and familiarity with P&IDs, SDS, and basic process calculations.
  • Working knowledge of safety and quality systems such as PSM, ISO 45001, ISO 9001, GMP, LOTO, confined space, and spill response (or local equivalents).
  • Proven people leadership, shift management, and shop-floor problem solving.
  • Comfortable with ERP/MES and CMMS tools (e.g., SAP/Oracle) and Excel for data analysis.
  • Willing to work a rotating schedule or extended hours when production requires.

Nice to have

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean certification.
  • Experience with DCS/SCADA or PLC-driven operations.
  • Background in one or more of: resins, coatings, polymers, solvent blending, water treatment chemicals, specialty additives.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance frameworks (e.g., REACH, RCRA, local air and wastewater permits).

Success metrics (first 6 months)

  • Zero recordable incidents and strong near-miss reporting.
  • ≥ 95% OTIF, improved OEE, and higher first-pass yield on top SKUs.
  • Unplanned downtime reduced by a measurable percentage.
  • Completed SOP refresh and effective operator training plan.

Working conditions

  • On-site manufacturing role. Time on the floor in PPE with exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 20 kg.
  • May require weekend or holiday coverage during turnarounds or campaigns.

Reporting line and team

  • Reports to: Plant Manager or Operations Director
  • Direct reports: Shift leads and production operators (team size varies by site)

Compensation and benefits

  • Competitive salary with performance bonus.
  • Health and retirement benefits per company policy.
  • Training and certification support.
