We are seeking a skilled Chemical Engineer who excels in technical accuracy, applied problem-solving, and practical process reasoning to join our team. In this role, you will contribute directly to enhancing how advanced AI systems comprehend and communicate complex chemical engineering concepts. Your expertise will be essential in evaluating, challenging, and refining cutting-edge language models within domain-specific topics, ultimately shaping the future of AI technology in the chemical engineering field. This opportunity is with SME Careers, a rapidly growing AI Data Services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, known for providing training data to leading AI companies and foundation-model labs worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

- Evaluate AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, logical consistency, completeness, and clarity across a broad range of chemical engineering topics.
- Challenge advanced language models using realistic chemical engineering scenarios, calculations, and process-informed reasoning tasks.
- Review and refine AI-generated prompts, model outputs, explanations, and step-by-step engineering solutions to ensure quality and precision.
- Provide structured feedback identifying factual inaccuracies, flawed assumptions, missing constraints, unsafe recommendations, unit inconsistencies, or incomplete reasoning.
- Assess model performance on critical subjects such as material and energy balances, phase behavior, thermodynamic property application, unit operations and sizing logic, distillation and separation design feasibility, process control reasoning, process safety, scale-up, manufacturability, operability, and troubleshooting plant scenarios.
- Help establish AI communication standards for technical chemical engineering content, including how models explain assumptions, limitations, calculations, and professional judgment.
- Ensure AI-generated content adheres to sound engineering principles, incorporates appropriate safety considerations, and promotes responsible technical communication, including guidance on when to escalate issues to licensed engineers or site experts.

Required Qualifications

- A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in chemical engineering, with substantial hands-on involvement in areas such as process design, plant or operations engineering, process safety, scale-up, manufacturing, utilities, environmental health and safety (EHS), quality assurance, research and development, or controls and automation interfaces.
- Strong foundational knowledge of chemical engineering principles, including material and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, separations (such as distillation, absorption, extraction, membranes), unit operations, and process control concepts.
- Proficiency in engineering calculations, assumptions, constraints, and defensible reasoning, with an understanding of uncertainty, safety factors, and limitations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering or related fields, professional engineering licensure (PE), Chartered Engineer status, or other advanced professional certifications are highly desirable.
- Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, red-teaming, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with industry tools and documentation such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Aspen Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, process datasheets, Process Safety Management (PSM) documentation, HAZOP/LOPA studies, or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is a plus.

This role offers a unique chance to apply your chemical engineering expertise in a cutting-edge AI environment, directly influencing how AI understands and communicates complex engineering knowledge. Join us to be part of a dynamic team driving innovation at the intersection of chemical engineering and artificial intelligence.
