Chiller Operator

Job Purpose To operate, monitor, and maintain industrial chiller systems and associated cooling equipment to ensure uninterrupted, efficient, and safe cooling operations for plant machinery and production processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and monitor industrial chillers, chilled water systems, cooling towers, and associated pumps.

Monitor and record operating parameters, including chilled water supply/return temperatures, pressure, flow, and compressor readings.

Ensure optimal chiller performance and maintain the required cooling temperature for production and utility operations.

Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of chillers and associated equipment.

Identify abnormalities, troubleshoot operational issues, and report faults to the maintenance team.

Monitor refrigerant levels, water circulation, and system performance as applicable.

Maintain daily operational logs, equipment checklists, and maintenance records.

Coordinate with electrical and mechanical maintenance teams during breakdowns and scheduled maintenance.

Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures, including electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe refrigerant handling.

Maintain housekeeping standards in the utility area and promptly report any unsafe conditions.

Support energy-efficiency initiatives to minimize utility consumption and operating costs.

Qualification & Experience

Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (preferred), or relevant technical certification.

2–3 years of experience operating industrial chillers in a manufacturing, FMCG, or process industry.

Practical knowledge of water-cooled or air-cooled chillers and chilled water circulation systems.

Familiarity with compressors, pumps, cooling towers, valves, and basic electrical controls.

Ability to read operating parameters, maintain logs, and identify equipment abnormalities.
