Clinical Nurse Specialist (Nursing Services – Off Campus Hospital)

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), a distinguished not-for-profit healthcare institution, is inviting applications for the position of Clinical Nurse Specialist to support its Off-Campus Hospitals. Key Responsibilities

Serve as a clinical expert by providing specialty-based education and guidance to nursing staff across Off-Campus Hospitals. Assess the learning needs of nursing personnel and develop structured, competency-based training programs tailored to these needs. Collaborate with Nurse Managers and Instructors to design specialty-specific courses, educational materials, and annual education plans.

Coordinate and monitor in-service education sessions, ensuring the timely completion of orientation programs for new hires. Mentor and coach Nurse Instructors, Clinical Nurse Coordinators, and Head Nurses to enhance their clinical knowledge and leadership skills. Ensure staff certifications, credentials, and competency validations are completed and maintained on schedule.

Demonstrate advanced clinical expertise to support nursing staff in managing complex patient care scenarios. Conduct clinical rounds to monitor quality of care, adherence to clinical standards, and patient safety practices. Identify patient safety risks and implement interventions to promote safe and effective care delivery.

Monitor clinical and nursing-sensitive indicators, as well as patient outcomes, to ensure compliance with quality standards. Participate in clinical audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care. Collaborate with nursing leadership to implement divisional nursing education, quality, and professional development initiatives.

Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical policies, protocols, and nursing practice standards. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to promote coordinated, patient-centered care. Engage actively in institutional committees, quality improvement projects, and professional development activities.

Support performance management by mentoring and evaluating nursing staff, providing constructive feedback. Identify and develop high-potential nursing staff for leadership development and succession planning. Foster a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and excellence in nursing practice.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution is required; a Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. A Diploma in Midwifery and valid, current registration with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) are mandatory. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of relevant nursing experience, including 2–3 years in clinical teaching, staff development, or specialty nursing practice within a tertiary care hospital.

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is essential. The role demands strong clinical expertise with the ability to apply evidence-based nursing practices. Proven leadership, mentoring, coaching, and staff development skills are required, along with sound knowledge of patient safety standards, clinical quality improvement, and nursing care protocols.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills are necessary. The ability to work effectively across multiple hospital sites and with multidisciplinary teams is critical. Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

Instructor certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are preferred. Additional certifications in safe medication administration, intravenous cannulation, clinical education, mentorship, or related areas are advantageous.
