We are seeking a software engineer with a strong interest in cryptocurrency markets who is comfortable participating in day trading as part of the role. The position involves researching trading strategies, analyzing extensive historical market data, and developing algorithms that can be tested and refined over time. You will work with datasets spanning 10 years or more where available, identifying patterns, testing hypotheses, and using evidence to evaluate trading ideas. This is a hybrid role combining both trading activities and software development. Candidates ranging from students and recent graduates to experienced professionals are encouraged to apply, provided they demonstrate strong technical skills and genuine crypto trading experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in crypto market research and day-trading activities.
- Analyze long-term historical market data, including datasets covering 10 years or more when reliable data exists.
- Collect, clean, validate, and analyze data from crypto exchanges and other relevant sources.
- Apply data analysis and critical thinking to identify patterns, test hypotheses, and assess the validity of trading strategies.
- Study price action, market behavior, and trading strategies, translating useful ideas into testable rules.
- Develop Python tools and services to support data collection, analysis, and automation tasks.
- Work with exchange APIs, libraries, and other data sources, employing scripting or automation as needed.
- Research technical indicators and formulas using reliable references, open-source tools, and AI assistants such as Claude.
- Verify formulas and AI-generated code before incorporating them into analysis or trading systems.
- Integrate existing tools and services to address gaps within the trading workflow.
- Build and enhance components for backtesting, monitoring, alerting, and execution.
- Test strategies using historical data and simulated trading, and assist in evaluating live trading under defined risk parameters.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, results, and limitations to support data-driven decision-making by the team.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrable interest and experience in cryptocurrency markets, including buying, selling, or day trading crypto assets.
- Comfort with both day-trading research and software development responsibilities.
- Strong data analysis and critical thinking skills, with the ability to question assumptions and interpret results carefully.
- Proficiency in Python, including scripting for data collection, analysis, and automation.
- Experience working with APIs, preferably exchange APIs, and handling structured data formats such as JSON.
- Ability to manage and analyze historical and time-series data to evaluate trading ideas based on evidence.
- Familiarity with data-driven analysis tools such as pandas, NumPy, SQL, notebooks, statistical methods, or visualization libraries.
- Capability to research technical indicators, understand their logic, and translate concepts into code.
- Practical mindset focused on leveraging existing tools and libraries before developing new solutions.
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain reasoning, trading ideas, and technical decisions.
- Curiosity, discipline, and openness to learning from experiments that may not yield expected outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Familiarity with crypto exchanges, market data feeds, order types, and trading dashboards.
- Experience analyzing large datasets, historical price data, or time-series data.
- Exposure to backtesting, quantitative analysis, algorithmic trading, or risk management.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor or Claude.
- Contributions to relevant open-source projects or personal projects related to trading, data analysis, or software development.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy combining hands-on crypto market participation with software engineering and data analysis. Candidates do not need a specific degree or extensive work history; students, recent graduates, self-taught developers, and seasoned professionals are all encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate relevant skills and trading experience. Please note, if you prefer purely coding roles without involvement in day-trading activities, this position may not be the right fit.
