Teknosys is looking for a proactive Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee and safeguard critical database platforms that support our production applications. The successful candidate will ensure databases remain highly available, perform optimally, and recover swiftly during outages or failures. This role focuses on building resilience through failover readiness, maintaining backup integrity, and executing disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime and data loss. The DBA will work closely with infrastructure, DevOps, and application teams to maintain reliable, scalable database environments.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, along with NoSQL databases including MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis. Manage daily operations across production, staging, and disaster recovery environments to ensure stability and uptime. Design and implement high availability architectures using replication, clustering, and automatic failover to reduce downtime.
Configure primary-secondary and active-active setups, regularly testing failover and switchover procedures for rapid recovery. Develop and maintain robust backup and restore strategies utilizing tools like pgBackRest, Percona XtraBackup, or native utilities. Define and manage Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), conducting periodic disaster recovery drills to validate preparedness.
Monitor and tune database performance through query optimization, indexing, partitioning, capacity planning, and resource forecasting. Establish proactive monitoring with tools such as Zabbix, Nagios, Prometheus, and Grafana, responding promptly to alerts and incidents. Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to uphold service level agreements (SLAs) for uptime.
Implement security best practices including encryption, access control, auditing, patching, and compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with development teams on schema design, query tuning, and release planning. Automate repetitive DBA tasks using scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell, and support infrastructure automation with Ansible or Terraform.
Maintain comprehensive documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, backup procedures, recovery playbooks, and incident reports.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Two to four years of hands-on experience in database administration. Proven expertise managing production databases with high availability and disaster recovery configurations. Familiarity with incident handling and recovery scenarios.
Proficiency with MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle databases. Strong knowledge of replication, clustering, and failover setups. Experience with backup and restore strategies and disaster recovery planning. Skills in performance tuning and capacity management.
Hands-on experience with backup tools such as pgBackRest and Percona XtraBackup. Competence in monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, and Nagios. Automation skills using Ansible and Terraform. Experience with query tools like pgAdmin, MySQL Workbench, or Toad.
Scripting abilities in Python, Bash, or PowerShell. Exposure to cloud database services such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL, particularly in hybrid or disaster recovery environments. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a performance-focused mindset. Ownership of uptime and reliability, including experience in incident response and crisis management.
Attention to detail, effective communication, and teamwork skills. Willingness to participate in on-call and production support rotations as required.
