Developer III - Software Engineering (Java Developer)

We are currently seeking a Senior Java Spring Boot Developer with over eight years of software engineering experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, AWS cloud technologies, and API security. This role involves designing, developing, and supporting scalable, cloud-native applications and secure APIs. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, hands-on technical leadership, and experience building resilient, high-performance distributed systems in enterprise environments. They will lead technical solutions from architecture and design through deployment and production support.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java and Spring Boot applications, microservices, and secure REST APIs.
- Own technical solutions from architecture and API design through implementation, deployment, and production operations.
- Build and modernize cloud-native applications on AWS, enhancing scalability, resilience, maintainability, and operational readiness.
- Design and implement integrations with API gateways, identity providers, databases, internal platforms, downstream services, and external partners.
- Apply API security controls including authentication, authorization, OAuth 2.0, JWT validation, encryption, secrets management, input validation, and protection of sensitive data.
- Develop maintainable API contracts with versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, validation, error handling, and traffic protection.
- Build fault-tolerant services using resilience patterns such as timeouts, retries with backoff, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, graceful degradation, health checks, and failover.
- Enhance software quality through automated unit, integration, component, contract, and performance testing.
- Strengthen observability using structured logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, service-level indicators, and actionable alerts.
- Diagnose complex application and integration issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Contribute to CI/CD automation, automated quality controls, vulnerability remediation, and production-readiness activities.
- Analyze application performance, capacity, and cloud resource usage, implementing improvements that deliver measurable value.
- Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, requirements refinement, estimation, and solution planning.
- Identify technical debt and recommend improvements to architecture, security, resilience, code quality, and developer productivity.
- Create clear technical documentation covering architecture decisions, API behavior, integrations, operations, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, product owners, security teams, and platform teams, providing technical guidance to peers.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of eight years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent senior-level technical capability.
- Strong hands-on development experience with modern Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
- Extensive experience developing production applications using Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem.
- Proven ability to design, build, and operate REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems in production environments.
- Practical experience developing cloud-native and containerized applications on AWS.
- Deep knowledge of API security concepts including OAuth 2.0, JWT, authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets handling, input validation, and secure coding practices.
- Expertise in API design covering contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, validation, error handling, and traffic protection.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, resilience patterns, clean code principles, and engineering best practices.
- Experience designing fault-tolerant systems using failure isolation, recovery, concurrency, consistency, and service dependency management.
- Familiarity with resilience patterns such as timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, graceful degradation, health checks, and failover.
- Experience integrating with multiple data sources, partner systems, or third-party platforms.
- Proficiency with relational databases, SQL, data modeling, transactions, and database performance considerations.
- Skilled in creating automated unit, integration, component, contract, and service-level tests.
- Experience with Git, Linux/Unix environments, build automation, CI/CD pipelines, dependency management, and debugging tools.
- Strong production troubleshooting, observability, performance analysis, scalability testing, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
- Ability to independently lead complex engineering projects from problem definition through production delivery.
- Excellent communication skills to evaluate technical trade-offs and present recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with enterprise API management platforms such as Apigee or AWS API Gateway.
- Familiarity deploying and operating services using AWS ECS.
- Knowledge of infrastructure and delivery automation tools like Terraform and Jenkins.
- Experience with observability and identity platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, or Okta.
- Background in modernizing legacy applications or designing highly available, multi-region systems.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, or asynchronous processing.
- Understanding of cryptography and secure payload patterns including ECDH, ECDSA, HPKE, JWE, digital signatures, or key management.
- Experience developing software for regulated environments or systems handling sensitive consumer data.
- Experience building AI-enabled solutions using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, or intelligent automation.
- Practical use of AI-assisted development tools and modern coding agents, with a focus on code review, confidentiality, security, and engineering quality.
