A Dispenser plays a crucial role in healthcare by accurately filling prescriptions, preparing pharmaceutical formulations, and dispensing medications to patients under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist or Medical Officer. This position serves as an essential link between healthcare providers and patients, ensuring proper medication management through meticulous record-keeping, inventory control, and clear communication regarding drug dosages, administration, and safety precautions.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately measure, package, and dispense prescribed medications and medical supplies according to written prescriptions.
- Provide patients with clear instructions on medication dosage, timing, administration routes, potential side effects, and storage requirements.
- Maintain adequate pharmaceutical stock levels, monitor expiry dates, and log all incoming and outgoing supplies to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Review prescriptions for completeness and accuracy, checking for possible drug interactions or contraindications.
- Keep detailed records of prescriptions and maintain logs in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper storage conditions for medications, including cold-chain management when necessary.
- Assist in compounding standard non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations such as liquid solutions, ointments, powders, and topical applications.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards in handling patient information and controlled substances.
- Manage a clean and organized dispensing area while prioritizing urgent orders and handling high patient volumes efficiently.
- Apply basic first aid knowledge and adhere to infection control protocols, including safe disposal of medical waste.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Dispenser from a recognized faculty or institute.
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid registration with the Punjab Medical Facility.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong pharmaceutical knowledge, including familiarity with generic and brand drug names, therapeutic classes, drug interactions, side effects, and dosage calculations.
- Competence in pharmaceutical compounding and preparation of non-sterile formulations.
- Proficiency in inventory and stock management, including expiry date tracking and cold-chain storage.
- Experience with pharmacy management software, digital logbooks, and healthcare record maintenance.
- High attention to detail to prevent medication errors through precise measurement, labeling, and patient verification.
- Commitment to ethical standards, patient confidentiality, and compliance with medical regulations.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage workflow in a busy dispensing environment.
- Basic first aid skills and awareness of safety protocols related to infection control and emergency response.
