The Django Developer role is a remote volunteer position focused on supporting Outcome School’s mission to equip underserved youth with practical, technology-driven skills that lead to meaningful employment and long-term economic mobility. The developer will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining web applications that underpin the school’s learning pathways and workforce development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain backend features using Django to support the platform’s functionality.
- Integrate and manage databases, ensuring efficient schema design and query optimization.
- Build and refine RESTful APIs to facilitate seamless communication between front-end and back-end systems.
- Collaborate closely with front-end developers to deliver intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices.
- Review code contributions from other volunteers to maintain code quality and consistency.
- Participate in planning and design discussions to ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, and aligned with the needs of learners and employers.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to emerging developers within the volunteer community.
- Communicate effectively in a remote work environment, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

- Strong back-end web development skills, particularly with Django and RESTful API design.
- Proficiency in Python programming, including experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Foundational front-end development knowledge, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, to collaborate effectively across the stack.
- Solid understanding of clean code principles, debugging techniques, and performance optimization.
- Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQLite, including schema design and query optimization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment with clear communication skills.
- Relevant education or equivalent practical experience in computer science, software engineering, or related fields.
