An experienced Electrical Engineer is sought to provide hands-on support for chemical manufacturing operations at the Port Qasim Karachi site. The role involves active participation in the design, specification, installation, start-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power generation, distribution, and protection systems. This position supports ongoing manufacturing processes and new installations aimed at enhancing plant reliability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Process teams to troubleshoot electrical equipment issues and develop repair or upgrade plans that ensure plant operations and long-term reliability.
- Develop detailed design specifications for new or existing electrical equipment based on specific manufacturing and process requirements.
- Manage assigned reliability improvement projects, overseeing schedules, budgets, testing protocols, documentation, and approval processes.
- Participate actively in technical reviews such as Design Reviews, PHA, HAZOP, SAFOP, SIL, 3D Modeling, and Constructability assessments.
- Assist in creating and completing check sheets and checklists for pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Handle electrical equipment procurement tasks including preparing vendor bid inquiries, analyzing bids, selecting vendors, reviewing and approving technical proposals, drawings, and manuals, and attending FAT/shop tests as necessary.
- Ensure strict compliance with the company’s ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan, and Design Integrity processes.
- Prepare and review Preventative Maintenance work plans for all electrical equipment and systems, including power generation, distribution, substations, switchgear, motors, and control systems.
- Supervise and manage outside contractors for design and field construction work, ensuring adherence to local safety requirements.
- Follow Site Management of Change procedures and conduct safety reviews during engineering, design, and testing phases.
- Work closely with the Site Operations team to improve process and productivity through reliable electrical power systems.
- Lead the development of future electrical projects through a stage-gate process covering evaluation, assessment, definition, design, execution, and start-up.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in Petrochemical, Chemical, Oil and Gas, and/or Power Plant industries.
- Hands-on experience with substation automation and load management systems.
- Proficiency with GE Excitation Systems for generators.
- Knowledge of Short Circuit and Protection Coordination Studies.
- Experience with DC and AC UPS systems.
- Familiarity with protection relays for medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) electrical networks.
- Working knowledge of MV and LV Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Exposure to consultancy, conceptual engineering, FEED, EPCIC, and operations activities.
- Field experience and strong understanding of power electronic-based control systems, software, tools, and techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of national and international electrical regulations, specifications, codes, and standards.
- Awareness of safety and quality procedures.
- Strong communication skills, cost awareness, and a proactive approach.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively.
