The role involves monitoring and managing the progress of assigned flights in strict compliance with the Airline’s Operational Manual and relevant civil aviation regulations. The successful candidate will assist the Captain in ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and operational efficiency throughout the flight. Responsibilities include recording and documenting essential flight data, supporting both flight and cabin crew, and effectively implementing emergency procedures when necessary. The position also requires the ability to assume control of the flight from the Captain when instructed, following established protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as either the ‘Pilot Flying’ or ‘Pilot Monitoring,’ supporting the Captain by overseeing flight progress, system efficiency, and cockpit crew performance. Maintain strong cooperation and balanced task distribution while ensuring clear communication.
- Operate the aircraft on assigned routes when directed by the Captain, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
- Conduct flights strictly according to the Airline’s Operations Manual and regulatory requirements, continuously applying procedures to guarantee safe and smooth operations.
- Coordinate with the Captain and Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure all crew members are well-prepared and informed about aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather conditions, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and role assignments.
- Perform necessary checks and complete documentation such as take-off data, fuel calculations, and ATS flight plans.
- Utilize approved systems and forms to log flight data, verify calculations, and obtain the Captain’s signature.
- Supervise aircraft fueling at stations lacking qualified personnel, ensuring correct fuel type and distribution.
- Alert the Captain to any irregularities or safety concerns, take appropriate actions as instructed, and assist the crew in responding to safety or security issues.
- Undertake additional ground-based duties such as Safety Officer or Security Officer as assigned by the Head of Flight Operations, following the Airline’s Operations Manual.
- Stay current with legal requirements from civil aviation authorities, Airbus, and other relevant bodies. Participate in recurrent and competency-based training programs.
- Ensure all manuals, charts, maps, and forms are up to date, properly distributed, and complied with by the Flight Crew. Secure the aircraft when necessary.
- Assist the Captain in completing voyage reports, flight logs, and safety or discretion reports. Securely deposit flight documentation after each flight.
Required Qualifications
- Hold an appropriate ATPL license or a CPL license with a Frozen ATPL.
- Successfully pass the technical and psychometric assessments for Second Officers as per Airline and civil aviation authority standards.
- Meet medical fitness requirements for Second Officers according to Airline and regulatory standards.
- Formal training in safety and emergency response is essential; additional qualifications are advantageous.
- Proficiency in aircraft systems, Microsoft Office, internet research, and web-based tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentations.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Arabic and French is considered an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 1,500 flying hours, preferably on Airbus A320 aircraft.
- Experience with low-cost carriers is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Familiarity with security, safety, QA, and audit procedures related to Flight Operations.
- Ability to apply policies, procedures, and manuals in compliance with approved standards.
