Full Stack Engineer (Fintech)

Nostro is a fintech company designed by global earners for global earners, aiming to simplify how millions of Pakistanis working with international clients get paid and manage their earnings. The platform offers USD accounts, debit cards, payment links, and instant peer-to-peer transfers, enabling users to receive, hold, and grow their income without borders. As part of the engineering team, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the platform that users rely on for their financial transactions. You will take ownership of features from API and database design to user interfaces, collaborating closely with product, design, and operations teams. Your work will directly impact how thousands of freelancers and professionals in Pakistan engage with the global economy.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop back-end services and APIs related to accounts, cards, payment links, and peer-to-peer transfers, ensuring correctness, idempotency, and auditability are integral to the system.
- Create fast, responsive, and accessible web interfaces using React and Next.js.
- Integrate with banking partners, card processors, and KYC/AML providers to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Write clean, well-tested code and participate in thorough code reviews to maintain high-quality standards.
- Enhance performance, reliability, and security across the entire technology stack.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including participating in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain and update technical documentation to support ongoing development and operations.
- Contribute to improving continuous integration, deployment pipelines, and monitoring practices.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience building and shipping production web applications across the full stack.
- Hands-on experience in fintech domains such as payments, banking, wallets, or lending, with a solid understanding of the importance of idempotent operations, reliable ledgers, reconciliation, and handling failures and retries.
- Strong back-end development skills, including API design, relational databases, and server-side frameworks like Node.js.
- Proficiency in front-end development using modern JavaScript frameworks and solid CSS skills for creating polished, responsive layouts.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices, including authentication, authorization, protection of sensitive data, and familiarity with OWASP Top 10 security risks.
- Comfortable using Git and collaborative workflows involving pull requests, code reviews, and branching strategies.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to work independently in a remote team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with card issuing, payment links, or cross-border and multi-currency payment systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards such as PCI DSS, KYC/AML, and State Bank of Pakistan regulations.
- Experience working with AWS, Docker, and infrastructure as code tools.
- Previous experience in an early-stage startup environment is a plus.
