A well-established manufacturing company based in Karachi, operating in the Pharmaceutical and FMCG sectors, is seeking a seasoned and strategic General Manager to oversee its Legal, Corporate Affairs, and Intellectual Property functions. This senior leadership role demands comprehensive legal expertise to ensure regulatory compliance, protect the company’s commercial interests, and support its governance framework. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Board, CEO, and senior management to manage complex legal issues and contribute to the company’s growth and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Legal, Corporate Affairs, Governance, Compliance, and Intellectual Property departments, ensuring seamless coordination across all related functions.
- Provide strategic legal counsel to the Board, CEO, and senior leadership on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable corporate, commercial, regulatory, and industry-specific laws and standards.
- Oversee corporate governance activities, including statutory compliance, preparation of Board documentation, resolutions, and regulatory filings.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a variety of contracts, commercial agreements, memoranda of understanding, leases, licenses, and other legal documents.
- Manage litigation, disputes, claims, legal notices, and court proceedings by coordinating with internal teams and external legal counsel.
- Develop and implement legal risk management and compliance frameworks to mitigate potential risks to the business.
- Administer and safeguard the company’s Intellectual Property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, designs, registrations, renewals, brand protection, and enforcement actions.
- Maintain effective communication and relationships with regulatory authorities, government departments, external legal advisors, and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, advising management on their potential impact on business operations.
- Establish and maintain robust legal policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and contract management processes.
- Provide legal guidance on business expansion, strategic initiatives, partnerships, investments, product launches, and commercial transactions.
- Lead, develop, and mentor the Legal & Corporate Affairs team to enhance their skills and overall performance.
Required Qualifications
- LLB or LLM degree from a recognized university or institution.
- 10 to 15+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably within Pharmaceutical, FMCG, Manufacturing, or similarly regulated industries.
- Strong expertise in Corporate & Commercial Law, Corporate Governance, Regulatory Affairs, Litigation, Contracts, Compliance, and Intellectual Property.
- In-depth knowledge of Pakistan’s legal and regulatory environment.
- Proven experience engaging with senior management, Board-level committees, regulators, government authorities, and external counsel.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical, business-oriented solutions.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Additional qualifications or certifications in Corporate Law, Corporate Governance, or Intellectual Property are advantageous.
- Competitive monthly salary ranging from Rs450,000 to Rs550,000.
- Full-time, in-person attendance required at the Karachi office.
