GitHub Specialist

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as a GitHub Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for creating realistic and challenging computer-based tasks centered around GitHub and its associated workflows. Your role involves designing practical GitHub tasks, clearly documenting them using SuperAnnotate, preparing the necessary environment to support these tasks, and recording yourself performing each task on your computer. These tasks are essential for training advanced AI models to better understand how users engage with software collaboration and version-control processes.

Key Responsibilities

- Create realistic GitHub tasks that reflect practical scenarios involving repository setup, branch management, commits, pull requests, issues, code reviews, README updates, file edits, GitHub Actions basics, project boards, release notes, collaboration workflows, or documentation changes. Document each task clearly in SuperAnnotate to ensure clarity and usability.

- Prepare the work environment by ensuring you have all necessary resources, including GitHub access, test repositories, relevant files, branches, sample issues, and any required tools. This preparation is crucial before recording task execution.

- Record yourself executing the GitHub tasks on your computer, following project instructions carefully. Ensure the recorded workflow is clear, complete, and realistic to provide valuable training data.

- Provide comprehensive documentation for each task, including context, detailed steps, goals, repository information, files involved, and notes. This information helps reviewers understand the task and how it was completed.

- Demonstrate practical use of GitHub features by completing workflows involving repositories, commits, branches, pull requests, issues, README updates, code reviews, project boards, or GitHub Actions where applicable.

- Maintain high submission quality by reviewing your recordings and documentation before submission. Ensure that each task is complete, understandable, realistic, and aligned with project guidelines.

Required Qualifications

- Hands-on experience with GitHub, including working knowledge of repositories, branches, commits, pull requests, issues, documentation, code reviews, and collaboration workflows.

- Proficiency in English at a B2 level or higher, enabling you to comprehend project instructions, document tasks clearly, and communicate effectively with the project team.

- Comfort using computers and browser-based tools, including GitHub, file systems, code editors, terminals, and recording software to capture workflows.

- Ability to design realistic and challenging GitHub tasks that mirror actual software development, documentation, collaboration, administration, or project management scenarios.

- Strong understanding of GitHub fundamentals such as repositories, commits, branches, pull requests, merge conflicts, issues, README files, permissions, and project boards.

- Capability to prepare your setup adequately, ensuring GitHub access, test repositories, necessary files, Git installation (if required), and any references are ready before recording.

- High attention to detail in task preparation, workflow execution, and quality assurance of recordings and documentation.

- Reliability and self-direction to consistently deliver quality work in a remote, hourly contractor role across different time zones.
