A.     Management of working hours

The nature of the main tasks and responsibilities of the holder of this position will require from him/her to agree to working hours per day/s managed flexibly and according to the official weekly/monthly working hours provision mentioned in the Handbook for National Staff. This and any precautionary measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic may require the driver to be working in shifts (or partial shifts) for optimal utilization of the existing project vehicles.  

B.     Responsibilities

The driver is responsible for:

  • Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
  • Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations according to RMO information
  • Running official errands and assisting with other office work                                        

The Driver performs the following tasks: 

C.     Tasks 

1.     Driving

  • Responsible for taking care of programme soft skin vehicles
  • Provides driving services to GIZ staff members and official visitors
  • Drives GIZ/Programme official vehicles safely in conformity with good driving practices and the motor vehicle laws of Pakistan
  • Follows GIZ’s security rules by RMO in terms of changing routes frequently and passive driving to ensure low profile (e.g. no frequent use of horn, light signal, changing lanes, should not drive in the middle of the street using two lanes, give way to other parties of the traffic (esp. pedestrians) etc;
  • Undertakes field travel as assigned and is willing to work flexibly
  • Never leaves the vehicle unattended while on duty and ensures all possible security measures and ensures safety and confidentiality of any material mail or documents that are provided for delivery 

2.     Vehicle Services

  • Keeps vehicles tools, emergency equipment (e.g. first aid kit & fire extinguisher) and documents in good order
  • Keeps the vehicle clean and maintains fuel/oil levels, wind shield washer fluid, type pressure (including spare), and battery fluid to their standards
  • Attends to any other maintenance service that is required as routine
  • Identifies and reports any need for vehicle repair to the supervisor and ensures that the vehicle is properly and cost-effectively repaired in his presence
  • Maintains and submits daily logbook assigned for the vehicle
  • Reports to the authorities immediately in case of an accident and complies with the office procedures accordingly
  • Loading and unloading the items being transported in official vehicles 

3.     Logistics

  • Helps to organize events and document meetings, workshops and seminars within or outside the programme offices
  • Supports organising administrative and logistics aspects of result area activities (meetings, workshops etc.) 

Other duties/additional tasks

  • Assists other colleagues as needed in the programme, programme or office if there is no travel pending
  • Ensures unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and reports restrictions immediately
  • Carries out other office work on the instruction of superior/management 

D.     Required Qualifications, competence and experience 

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Certificate
  • Hold a valid driving licence
  • Ideally hold a first aid certificate/relevant training 

Professional experience

  • At least 3-5 years’ work experience as a driver
  • No major accidents in the past 3 years 

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good command of English- can speak, understand and write English
  • Fluent use and knowledge of the local language widely used in the region
  • Discipline and punctuality
  • Resilience and patience
  • Familiarity with project region (Islamabad) and other relevant locations
  • Appropriate appearance and attire (friendly manner with all passengers)
  • Willingness to upgrade skill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are to be agreed with management
