A.      Responsibilities

The Technical Advisor Business Development will be responsible for;

  •   Implementation of programme activities in the context of the project, TextILES (Labour and environmental standards in Pakistan’s textile industry).
  •   Providing support to the Component Leader in the daily management of the project and facilitating the implementation of dialogue and cooperation activities of the various stakeholders;
  •   Providing support to the partner organisations for the achievement of the programme objectives with regard to support DfS multipliers;
  •   Developing scaling up strategies of DfS multipliers by ensuring capacity development activities including the development of business models;
  •   Providing orientation and strategic training to DfS multipliers for future capacity development measures;
  •   Providing support in all activities of the component with regard to business development in private sector with respect to productivity, employment and employability;
  •   Ensuring that effective stakeholder relations are developed and maintained, and that opportunities to engage with a wider audience are maximized;
  •   Ensuring active participation of beneficiaries and stakeholders in all phases of the programme;
  •   Facilitating meetings and workshops as a mediator to encourage participation and discussion;
  •   Capturing, structuring and disseminating lessons learnt and success stories.

The Technical Advisor Business Development performs the following tasks:

B.      Tasks

1.     Management

  •   Providing support to the component in the context of multiplication and scaling up, including the support to develop operational plans, monitoring and evaluation of interventions;
  •   Developing and constantly revising the interventions and work packages to execute the support to DfS multipliers; this includes the review of existing practices, capacity development methods, and work processes;
  •   Recruiting short term experts to support multipliers, guide them in developing workplans and monitor their performance in the context of impact;
  •   Managing relationship with the management and the focal points of the multipliers to communicate all requirements under labour, environmental & productivity requirements;
  •   Managing and facilitating the Business Development Strategies within all levels of the component to raise the impact of emerging sustainability issues.

2.     Professional advisory

  •   Developing and executing the concept and innovative marketing strategies to showcase the availability of service providers (multipliers) on DfS and influence the service renders (industry) to adopt DfS;
  •   Developing and executing the concept to brand and present the DfS model companies as success stories on implementing DfS;
  •   Connecting the multipliers with GIZ developed platforms e.g. communities of practice, sustainability forum to increase their outreach to the industry;
  •   Coordinating with and advising different stakeholders of textile and allied sectors e.g. industrial associations, chambers and industrial estates to pitch the availability of services providers (multipliers) on DfS;
  •   Reviewing and updating the business/ pricing models of the multipliers’ organisations in line with process consultation methodology;
  •   Assisting the multipliers in developing and adopting innovative marketing strategies to sell the services on DfS;
  •   Planning and developing the scope of works, ToRs and contracts of national and international experts;
  •   Developing and updating the existing business models of multiplier organisations;
  •   Developing and updating the existing pricing models for the multiplier organisations; 

·       Designing workshops, seminars and other events together with the partner organisations related to programme activities.

3.     Networking & cooperation  

  •   Cooperating, coordinating regularly and doing dialogue with partners, assists with PR work and cooperates with local communities, relevant organisations, non-governmental agencies and individuals to improve and sustain good working relationships;
  •   Communicating local interests and efforts, encourages sharing ideas and information for the benefit of the programme and stakeholders.

4.       Knowledge management

  •   Ensure the knowledge management within GIZ to ensure knowledge transfer to project information;
  •   Guiding the communication team in developing PR material to communicate the project benefits;
  •   Drawing up reports, presentation and documents;
  •   Assisting in communicating, updating and collecting information on the stakeholders;
  •   Keeping update project/programme documentation;
  •   Preparing the business cases both for multipliers or intermediaries as well as partner factories to develop business models and case studies to successfully institutionalize the Change Management Strategies;
  •   Developing ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures;
  •   Preparing appropriate input for various project reports including annual reports and contributes to the other reports required by the project manager and GIZ Head Office.

5.       Coordination

  •   Assists with general project planning and develops project concepts including preparation, organisation and moderation of planning exercises and their implementation, management, monitoring, quality management, evaluation, communication and documentation;
  •   Coordinates relevant project activities at local level in consultation with the manager and in cooperation with the partners, both with regard to implementation and preparing organisational aspects;
  •   Compiles the relevant information for joint activities and assignments.

4.    Other duties/additional tasks.

  •   Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the component leader;
  •   Carries out translation for international experts, when required.

C.      Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  •   Master’s in business administration from a reputed University, with specialisation in marketing or from any relevant field.

Professional experience

  •   Demonstrable experience at least 6 years of successful working and track record in business development or consultation of national/ international organisations;
  •   Work experience of developing marketing strategies to showcase the service providers especially in private sector is an advantage;
  •   Work experience with the textile sector is an advantage;
  •   Experience of working with international development sector is an advantage.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  •   Excellent facilitation and consensus-building skills;
  •   Excellent presenting, coordinating and networking skills
  •   Strong analytical skills;
  •   Willingness to travel frequently for business trips within Pakistan;
  •   Written and oral fluency in English and Urdu is required;
  •   Excellent planning and organisational skills;
  •   Strong monitoring and evaluation skills;
  •   Sound knowledge of the principles of labour standards, productivity and environment is a benefit;
  •   Professional use of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g. MS Office suit, etc.) are required.
