This hands-on finance role is ideal for a proactive professional ready to build and own the finance function within a growing B2B services company. This position goes beyond bookkeeping, tax preparation, or audit—it requires someone who delivers actionable insights directly to the CEO, interpreting financial data to drive strategic decisions. The role demands ownership, initiative, and the ability to create processes from scratch in a fast-paced environment without managerial oversight. Accuracy is expected, but the real value lies in making numbers useful and meaningful for business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Close the books every month within five business days and deliver a detailed Profit & Loss statement including margin analysis.
- Track every acquisition dollar spent across channels such as cold email, agencies, paid media, events, and partnerships, linking costs to clients and flagging any channels exceeding targets.
- Report gross margin by client engagement and maintain a rolling 13-week cash forecast to support CEO decision-making.
- Manage contractor and international payments, including processing 1099s and W-8BEN forms for a remote team.
- Calculate commissions and revenue-share payouts quarterly, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain separate, clean accounting records for each affiliate company as the group expands.
- Oversee collections to ensure client payments are received within five days of due dates.
- Collaborate with external CPA on entity structure and tax filings.
- Automate repetitive finance tasks using AI tools to scale operations without increasing headcount.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience managing the books for a services business such as an agency, consultancy, or professional services firm.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting principles; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus but practical experience is more important.
- Proven ability to build unit economics models (including CAC, gross margin by client, payback periods) that have influenced business decisions.
- Experience running month-end close independently, without managerial review.
- Daily use of AI tools to streamline manual processes, with demonstrable examples of workflow automation.
- Ability to work remotely with at least four hours of overlap with US Eastern Time during weekdays.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
This is a founding role within a company committed to sustainable growth and operational excellence. The organization aims to remain under 100 employees while helping 100,000 founders grow their businesses and build $100 million in annual revenue by 2035. The successful candidate will have the rare opportunity to design and lead the finance function from the ground up, directly impacting the company’s unit economics and long-term success.
Candidates who thrive in environments where every number sets the floor for future performance and who are comfortable delivering candid financial insights to founders will find this role highly rewarding. The company values transparency, ownership, and continuous improvement over stability or rigid processes.
Interested professionals should be prepared to demonstrate how they have influenced business decisions through financial insights, their approach to customer acquisition cost analysis, and examples of automation in month-end close processes. This role requires a self-starter who embraces challenge and accountability in equal measure.
