The Head of Architecture and Design will lead the In-House Architectural Design Section within the Engineering/Design Department at TCF. This role involves providing technical leadership and managing the entire architectural design process—from land assessment and initial planning through detailed design, tendering, construction support, and as-built reviews. The position ensures that all architectural designs are functional, economical, technically sound, constructible, well-coordinated, and compliant with TCF standards. The Head will also provide guidance to the in-house design team and coordinate inputs from structural, electrical, and plumbing consultants and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the In-House Architectural Design Section, providing technical direction, supervision, and quality control over all design deliverables.
- Plan, prioritize, and monitor design activities across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with TCF standards and timely completion at each design phase.
- Review land and site assessment data to provide architectural input on site suitability, constraints, and feasibility to support land adoption decisions.
- Oversee the preparation and review of initial layouts and architectural contributions for the Build Purchase Requisition (BPR) stage, ensuring site planning and building configurations are practical, economical, and aligned with TCF themes.
- Lead the development of detailed architectural designs post-BPR approval, ensuring all layouts, elevations, sections, and details are functional, cost-effective, constructible, and meet approved requirements.
- Coordinate with external structural consultants to review and resolve discrepancies in structural drawings, ensuring consistency with architectural designs before issuance.
- Lead and review in-house electrical and plumbing designs, ensuring proper integration with architectural layouts and other building services.
- Conduct thorough technical reviews of architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing drawings to guarantee accuracy, coordination, and constructability, while maintaining document control.
- Oversee the preparation of tender and Issued-for-Construction (IFC) drawings, ensuring sufficient detail for accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) preparation and timely response to design queries.
- Design schools within e-compounds using a phased approach, ensuring seamless integration of each building with future expansions.
- Provide ongoing architectural support during construction, resolving site queries, assessing change impacts, and maintaining design intent.
- Design buildings to be well-lit and naturally ventilated, considering road levels, climate, and accessibility.
- Review as-built drawings against IFC drawings to verify accuracy and completeness prior to project closure.
- Collaborate closely with Costing/QS, Budgeting, Repair & Maintenance, Project Management, QA/QC, Donor Services, Regional/Zone teams, and other stakeholders on design-related matters, cost implications, and technical clarifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with TCF standards, remain cost-effective and constructible, and identify opportunities for design standardization and process improvements.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.
