Head of Medical Services

The Head of Medical Services is a senior leadership role based in Karachi, responsible for overseeing the quality, safety, and efficiency of all clinical services within the hospital. This position ensures that medical administration, clinical governance, and patient care meet the highest professional and regulatory standards. The role involves close coordination with consultants, doctors, nursing teams, and hospital management to maintain excellent clinical outcomes and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Services and Clinical Affairs: Lead all medical and clinical departments to deliver consistent, high-quality patient care. Serve as the primary liaison between medical staff and hospital management, addressing clinical and operational challenges promptly. Develop and implement clinical policies, protocols, and care pathways aligned with best practices. Support the introduction and expansion of clinical services.

Medical Quality and Clinical Governance: Oversee the clinical governance framework, including audits, peer reviews, and mortality and morbidity meetings. Monitor clinical quality indicators and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure hospital readiness for accreditation and compliance with recognized quality standards.

Patient Safety and Quality Standards: Foster a strong patient safety culture encompassing infection control, medication safety, and safe surgical practices. Manage the reporting, investigation, and learning processes related to incidents, near misses, and sentinel events. Ensure adherence to informed consent, clinical documentation, and patient rights.

Clinical Operations and Medical Administration: Manage medical staffing, duty rosters, on-call schedules, and clinical coverage across all shifts. Oversee credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluations of consultants and doctors. Collaborate with operations and finance teams on clinical budgets, resource planning, and equipment needs. Track operational metrics such as length of stay, bed utilization, turnaround times, and patient satisfaction.

Coordination and Leadership: Build collaborative relationships with consultants, resident doctors, nursing leadership, allied health professionals, and support services. Mentor department heads and senior clinicians, promoting professionalism and accountability. Address medical staff conduct, disputes, and clinical complaints fairly and promptly. Contribute to hospital strategy as a member of the executive management team.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with PMDC, Sindh Healthcare Commission, DRAP, and other relevant regulations. Verify that all clinicians maintain valid registration and licenses.

Required Qualifications

- MBBS degree from a PMDC-recognized institution with valid PMDC registration (mandatory).
- Extensive experience in hospital, healthcare, or medical facility settings.
- Proven track record in senior medical leadership roles such as Head of Medical Services, Medical Director, or Head of Clinical Affairs.
- Strong background in medical services, clinical affairs, medical quality, clinical governance, patient safety, and quality standards.
- Practical experience in clinical operations and medical administration.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate effectively with consultants, doctors, nursing teams, and hospital management.

Preferred Qualifications

- Postgraduate specialist qualifications such as FCPS, MRCP, MRCS, or equivalent.
- Additional qualifications in healthcare management or quality, including MHA, MBA Healthcare, MPH, or similar.
- Experience with accreditation standards like JCI, ISO, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems and data-driven quality monitoring.

Additional Information

- Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in hospital or healthcare settings, preferably in facilities with 100 or more beds.
