The PEI/EPI Specialist undertakes critical technical responsibilities in planning, monitoring, and evaluating EPI and polio eradication interventions. This specialist also supports capacity building and training initiatives for health workers and partners to improve the delivery and coverage of immunization services. Field monitoring activities and management of cold chain logistics are essential elements of the position to ensure vaccine potency and accessibility. The position requires a proactive approach to overcoming challenges in immunization coverage and disease surveillance, emphasizing collaboration and innovation in public health programming.
Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement immunization strategies in line with national and international standards to increase vaccine coverage and reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Conduct comprehensive data analysis to monitor immunization program performance, identify gaps, and recommend targeted interventions.
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical reports to inform stakeholders, including government agencies and partner organizations, about program progress and challenges.
  • Facilitate coordination among government health departments, Emergency Operations Centres, implementing partners, and other stakeholders to ensure unified immunization efforts.
  • Design and deliver training sessions and capacity-building workshops for healthcare providers and program staff to enhance knowledge and skills in immunization and surveillance.
  • Conduct field monitoring visits to assess the quality of immunization services, cold chain integrity, and vaccine management practices.
  • Support the management and optimization of cold chain systems to guarantee vaccine efficacy from storage to administration points.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans for polio eradication activities within the immunization framework.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop risk assessments and emergency response plans related to vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Provide technical support to resolve operational challenges in immunization campaigns and routine program delivery.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on epidemiological trends, immunization technologies, and best practices in vaccine-preventable disease control.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations, safety standards, and ethical considerations in all immunization-related activities.
